Quiet and nice beach place close to Manila?

My girlfriend and I would like to go to somewhere small, quiet and maybe a bit romantic not tot far from manila. We are not looking for a fancy resort, that is beyond our budget. We are thinking max. 1500 PHP/night and max. 5 hours from Manila. Beaches would be great too. Ideas would be appreciated. Thank you.
Thanks for your advice. We would prefer a place without or at least with only few girlie bars. I have been to Subic and there was too much of a sex scene for my taste. Do you have any other suggestions? Thanks.

Laiya in San Juan, Batangas is perfect. White sand beaches. Native huts on the shore. Or maybe evn consider sleeping on a tent, listening to the waves.

Read my blog on Laiya. "One Laiya" has the cheapest accommodations, well within your budget. It is also not far from Manila, and you can be there in lss than 5 hours.

You may also explore Matabungkay and Nasugbu, also in Batangas.

Alternatively, go to Tagaytay. It is chilly, and so it can be very romantic. There are inns within your budget. I recommend the inn at JAVA Cafe, between Ligaya Drive and the Tagaytay Sta Rosa junction.

Cheap hotels near the beach in Barcelona?

Im going to Barcelona in June and need to find a really cheap but good place near the beach.

There will be the two of us going and we want a place thats Â£90 or less for 5 nights..

There are no cheap hotels in Barcelona. Pensions are not even so cheap as the price you want to pay. This was maybe 30 years ago.

If you've got a tent and a car, the best solution is to go to a camping site at any resort on the coast 20-25 km away from the city.

Or alternatively you can go to a youth hostel, but you know how it goes, you will have to share the bedroom with unknown people and keep you valuables in a locket.

New Zealand trip, rugby world cup 2011?

I have decided to go to NZ in 2011 with a couple of mates to see the rugby world cup, go skiing and explore the country a bit more.

Just wanting to know where the best places to go are to ski and to see great scenery. also what would be the best bet for transport and accomodation.

Is there anything that you recommend doing while in NZ

I'm not really sure there is a better places to ski, you might wanna go to the South Island as it has a much wider range of places to ski then the North, but i'd think either is a good choice.

The best scenary isn't up in the North. But while you're there for the world cup you can head down to Hamilton and go to the nearby waitomo caves and you could have a guided tour of that and do other activities. Then head down to Rotorua/Taupo, go to the geothermals, huka falls, maori experience.. action and adventure activites like zorbing, jet boating, etc, for some touristy stuff, and you can head up to near by Mount Ruapahu for skiing.

You'll probbaly wanna head down South.. take your pick and try out some different skiing facilties down there in the Southern Alps or just stick to one. Just driving around the South Island you will see some great scenary. Defently go to the Milford sound down there, just the road to it is scenic and so is the Milford Sound it's self, and you can have a cruise of it, and do some kayaking through it. It's supose to be really amazing (haven;t been myself) but defently go! the milford track is also supose to be one of the best walks in the world. Theres also lot's of like.. mirror lakes scattered around the South Island that you'll probbaly run into.
Also you'll want to see the fox or franz glaicer which are along the west coast near Franz Joesph, you can have a scenic flight, or a guided walk along them, or you can just see them from afar.

You'll want to visit/stay in Christchurch, Wanaka and Queenstown. There really close to the mounts, Christchurch has lots of wildlife atrractions and the antartic centre if you're interested in that, plus the nearby town Kaikoura has one of the best whale watching spots in the world. Queenstown is the adventure capital so you'd want to do something there, plus Lake Wakitupu there is really nice and the nearby Glenorchy.

If you wanna see some more great scenary, theres lots of walking tracks around, you can do the Abel tasman (bush and coast/beach scenic) track, which you can cruise around by boat too.
Also the Queen charlotte track which explores the Marborough sounds.
Another place is Nelson lakes which you could explore too.
Mount Aspring has some walks, the routeburn track i think is the main one, but this is up in the Southern alps so you'll see lots of mountain scenary, bush, lakes, glaciers, etc.

Theres also a scenic train that goes from Christchurch to Greymouth which is quite scenic and one of the best train journeys in the world. http://www.tranzscenic.co.nz/services/tranzalpine.aspx

Hmm.. You may want to stick with hostels to keep it budget, if you're doing tracks you can camp over in huts and even tent camping.
You may want to get a car insteed of using buses for getting around, as it might be cheaper or about the same since you guys can split for paying for a rental car.

Is there a way for me to have my wedding like this in New Zealand?

We live in new Zealand and i am trying to plan my wedding for 2015. We know exactly what we want our wedding to be.
We want the ceremony to be close to a beach/river "water".
I want to be married under a gazebo tent with 2walls on either side walking up the red carpet aisle while guests are seated on either sides of the aisle.

Here's the main reason im asking for advice.........

The reception is going to be just outside of the gazebo by at least 15ft away. everyone will follow down a home made path way to a 4ft bonfire and another 3wall gazebo as our reception room/dance room. There will be a barbecue going outside, food and beverages tables will be inside the gazebo lining 2 of the walls and the 3rd back wall will be reserved for the wedding party table and chairs and cake table.

Does it sound like we can have this wedding? i know we are going to have to get a fire permit but does this seem possible to you? And we only have a 10,000 budget. :\ any tips or advice you be a huge help.
my main concern is not with the plans for the wedding, its more of how can i achieve this wedding? 4ft-bonfire near the beach is supposed to be illegal, so just dont really know where to start. and it makes it harder to find a venue for the ceremony and reception when you bring the 4ft-bonfire into it.

Hmm.... sounds nice, but as far as all the measurements and stuff like that? Maybe you should relax a little and be flexible. You'll enjoy it much more. Maybe you'll have more money saved up by then (or less!) - it is four years out, after all.

Q. I am contemplating having my wedding reception on the beach because I am getting married in a church, and the hotels on the beach charge way to much money for the receptions. Its in Orange Beach/Gulf Shores Al. Does anyone have any suggestions that could help me?

Have the reception in a barn around October with pumpkins, cowboy boots and bonfires.

WOW... you are trying to pick between two really hot themes this year. I work at a wedding accessories store and the western wedding theme is by far our hottest selling theme line this year and last. But if your like alot of brides and dont want to be with the norm... I would say the Beach Theme Weddings are beautiful but they are less common now. They were hot a couple years ago and do seem to be making a comeback already this year though. should i still go to the beach even though its a little cloudy and the forecast calls for isolated thunderstor

i usually go a few times a week, and today is a day that i dont work until later...
i went for a couple of hours and enjoyed the sun while reading my book. it was quite relaxing especially since there were barely any people there! it turned out to be nice and sunny without any rain, just a few clouds overhead!

Absolutely, YES because normally when the forecast calls for an isolated thunderstorm, that is only about a 20 or 30% schance. Even if it does storm, couldn't you take shelter somewhere? Also, if it is cloudy, then that normally tends to lessen the chance of a thunderstorm, especially if the storms are formed by daytime heating. You see, on sunnier days, there is more heat to heat the ground up. Moisture from the heat then rises up as clouds and thunderstorms. If you don't have a lot of sun, then you don't have all that heating to go up into the clouds, so it is less likely to have a pop-up shower or thunderstorm. So yes, go enjoy your day at the beach.

Having a simple reception and want to keep the cost down. Any ideas?

I have loads of ideas. :)

1. See if you can enlist some close family members to cook (and by "cook", I mean "heat up precooked foods from Costco or GFS) and set up a buffet table. Caterers can be expensive, and with a small group or a casual setting, unnecessary. Don't ask parents or siblings to do this though. They'll be busy enough.

2. Cut back on flowers. Use candles as centerpieces instead, or get creative with your theme (if you've got one). For example, if you both love cars, scour your local auto parts store for fun-looking parts (mirrors, reflector thingies, chrome-y things, etc.). Print black and white pictures of old cars on cardstock and put them in dollar store frames. Arrange the items on the tables and add a few tealight candles. If you both love the beach, buy a bag of sandbox sand and scoop it into glass bowls, add shells and shove a votive candle into the sand. The only thing I really don't recommend is using live fish, which inevitably someone will suggest. The problem with that is, what do you do with 30 fish after the wedding?

3. Consider a unique venue. Hotel ballrooms or banquet halls aren't your only options. Check out your local city and county parks. They usually have buildings they rent out for cheap. If it will be in the summer, you could even have it in a back yard. Just make sure you provide insect repellant, enough lighting to keep people from tripping in the dark, and shelter in case of inclement weather like rain or blazing sun (a few pop-up screen rooms borrowed from friends or neighbors will do the trick).

Is it possible to get around San Diego without renting a car?

My family is traveling to San Diego soon, and I would like to know if it is possible to get around the city without renting a car. Our plans are to go to the Zoo, Sea World, the beach, and see the sights. Also if you have any recommendations to what we could do there please add them.

Yes... Though whether it's easy or not depends on how big your family is (are there really young kids?), where you plan on staying, and how much time do you have.

I suggest you stay in downtown area and get a MTS day pass for each adult (can buy them at vending machines at Trolley stations or at Transit Store at 1st and Broadway). They're $5 a piece and is good on buses and trolley for the day (every Saturday & Sunday, two children 12 and under ride free with any paying passenger 18 and over). You can pick up specific bus route maps/timetable at the Transit Store, Santa Fe Depot, or at the local library (the central library in downtown is on E St. just east of 8th St).

Hopefully you'll have at least 3 days to spend... Remember these buses ( http://www.sdmts.com/Tripplanner.asp ):
#923 - Downtown - Ocean Beach : takes you thru the Embarcadero pass the airport and thru Pt. Loma to Ocean beach (a bit of walking at the end will take you to Sunset Cliff - an ideal spot to watch the sun setting into the ocean in the evening).
#28 - Old Town - Shelter Island : if you get off #923 at Rosecrans Blvd, you can catch this bus west to Shelter Island Drive and then catch the
#84 that'll take you to Cabrillo National Monument & Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery (spectacular view of the bay and downtown skyline on a clear day). Make sure you know the bus schedule, tho, the last bus back from Cabrillo leaves there at 5:28PM and you really don't want to miss it. Should allot at least 4 hrs to visit Cabrillo and be sure to get down to the tide pools.

#30 - downtown - UTC/VA Hospital : This is the bus that takes you from downtown via a scenic route to La Jolla. You can catch this bus north, then transfer to #101 at VA Hospital, which will take you north along the 101HWY (if you want to visit Torrey Pines State Reserve & beach, Solana Beach, Del Mar... where the horse track is). Or you can get off at the corner of Girard and Silverado in downtown La Jolla, head left on Silverado until you hit 'Coast Blvd' and walk north (right) along the spectacular shoreline. You'll pass the famous Children's Pool where the seals are, and keep walking on the walkway along the coast pass Ellen Browning Scripps Park and La Jolla Cove. You'll see a 'Cave Store' as the path goes uphill... if you pay $4 per adult there, you can go down a long and narrow stair down to Sunny Jim's Cave ( http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/1745014/walk_the_la_jolla_coast_great_hiking.html?cat=16 ). La Jolla is full of boutique stores and great restaurants. You can spend an entire day down there (but hopefully no less than 4 hrs).

#8/#9 Old Town - Pacific Beach loop : These two run the same route the opposite way from Old Town Transit Center thru Mission Bay (where Sea World is) to Pacific Beach. From downtown, I'd hop on the blue line trolley at Santa Fe Depot to Old Town Transit Ctr. If you plan on visiting Old Town in the morning then catching the #9 to Sea World in the afternoon, that's one very good sight-seeing day! Don't forget to visit the Presidio, Heritage Park Row of Victorian era houses, and Whaley House when you're in Old Town.

#3 Euclid Trolley - UCSD Hospital in Hillcrest : if you want to visit Hillcrest neighborhood or Balboa Park (where the zoo is, but it's on the other end, so a long walk). This one goes up 5th Ave and down 4th. Get off at Laurel and walk east (left) to get to Balboa Park.

#7 Downtown - La Mesa : this one goes up Park Blvd/12th Ave. The bus to get on if you want to go to the Zoo, Ruben Fleet Science Ctr at Balboa Park.

#901 Iris Trolly - Downtown : this one goes across the Coronado Bridge to Coronado Island and down Silver Strand to Imperial Beach ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jN7M5LHR4OY ). You won't be able to get off on the bridge (it is a car-only bridge. No pedestrian), so be sure to sit on the right side of the bus with camera ready when you cross to Coronado. The bus takes you past the gate to North Island Naval Air Station, downtown, Hotel Del Coronado (beach access). Really should spend at least 4 hrs here. If possible, I'd take a bus there, and return via the Coronado - San Diego Ferry (it's only $3.75 one way adult fare).

And while you're visiting downtown, you might want to also visit the Maritime Museum on the Embarcadero ($17 discovery package entry fee also includes a 45 minutes bay cruise), Seaport Village, Gaslamp Quarter (where the hip nightlife is), Petco Park. Be sure to go up to the 40th floor of the Harbor Tower at the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel. There's a lounge up there that also serves as the highest waterfront observational deck on the US West Coast. Great view!

Palolem is the best place to go. It has the nicest beaches in Goa and also lots of things to do during the day and at night. It is has great beaches to go for a smoke. Agonda (about 5 mins walk is a great beach which is always empty so you won't get caught!) Its very easy to get something to smoke in Palolem - someone will offer you some within the first hour of geetting there!! :-)

It has a sweeping crescent of white sand fringed with coconut palms and is a postcard picture.

It has a late night market which is really good and is by lots of bars so you can go for a drink after - there are also lots of places to go clubbing here

Palolem is the best beach resort. It has the nicest beach in Goa and also lots of things to do during the day and at night.

You will not need a pool as these places are right on the beach and hotels with a pool are overpriced!

For a 2 day trip to Vancouver island, where are the best spots for photography?

Unfortunately i'll only have about 2 days to visit, so im looking for suggestions on the best places to focus my time on since its such a short visit. Sunset with a beach/rocky setting is what im really looking for, and any type out mountain vistas. Im probably going to do one of the orca tours, so wildlife is also an interest. From looking at all the travel guides, im disapointed I had to cut the trip short as I am a Bluejackets season ticket holder and we have the draft this year :) So it should turn out to be a fun week!!

The logistics of Vancouver Island for such things. Most of the population is on the sheltered East Coast of the Island. Victoria is South East on the Island. So it offers sunrise opportunities.

For the best sunsets you need to go to the West Coast of the Island. You don't have time to make it to Tofino, but keep it in mind for next time. I suggest a drive out toward Sooke.

Also if you are into photography. My suggestion would be Butchart Gardens. Click on their link and check out the map, and seasonal pictures to see if it is appealing to you.

Im doing a project on Lord of the flies, and like we have to make a hand book/ manual for survival on an island. we have to talk about food sources, shelter, protection from the elements, sanitation, keeping track of time, communication with the outside ect.

Find an old Scouting / Boy Scout handbook. It's got lots of ideas.

Generally:

Food sources: Small animals along with fish, crabs, or shellfish (provided you have a reliable means of making fire and can cook the above thoroughly). Otherwise rely on plants & tubers known to be edible (e.g. stay away from berries and mushrooms, but coconuts and bananas can be a good find). Standing (still) water is sometimes full of microbes -- best sources of water are collected rain (from leaves, e.g.) and those found inside the core of cut vines. Running streams, especially those that have run through sufficient rock and soil, are probably okay, but water should be boiled where possible before drinking.

Shelter: Vines or bark strips to lash timbers to trees, and leafy branches to provide an overhead canopy for sun or rain protection. Sleeping platforms kept well off the ground. Shelter for the fire as well (from wind and rain), since fire is valuable in its own right, and keeps predators away.

Sanitation: Site latrines to protect water resources. Urine is filtered out by the environment relatively easily, but bacteria from feces can contaminate water if a latrine is dug at a higher altitude than the most convenient source of water. Best practice is to site a latrine several hundred yards away and downhill from any fresh water source, but not so close to the sea that it makes the beach contaminated.

Time records. Notches on a tree or other permanent record can keep track of days. A sundial can approximate the passage of daylight hours and allow you to figure out "noon" local time, as well as (if a person understands astronomy well enough) allow some determination of where between a solstice and an equinox you are (giving you an idea of the season).

Tent Camping on the Beach?

Has anyone ever camped on the beach?
I am considering taking the kids up to Lake Erie to camp on the beach there.
I don't have a "special" beach tent. I want to use my smaller nylon dome tent.
Will I have trouble with this?

Do not need any "special tent". We are using a 2 man pop up camping tent(link below) and it work well for beach camping.Wind can and will be a problem. We actuall had one of those canopies get away from us in some high winds at the beach , but that was just a daytime setup. I imagine the wind gets pretty rough there, unless you can get back and out of it somehow. if there{s a lot of night wind the tarps can get pretty noisy. Try to find a sheltered are if there is any. But beach camping is great fun and pretty comfortable. You might need to empty the tent and shake out excess sand every day or two though. Night time may not be so bad though.

Mommies what sunscreen do you use on your little one ?

I am trying to find a good sunscreen for my 5 month old!

Actually, sunscreen is not typically recommended for babies under 6 months. It is better to keep her in the shade wearing lightweight clothing that covers her body, including a hat for her head, if you plan to be outside for an extended period of time. A beach umbrella or a cabana style sun tent is good if natural shade isn't available. Unless your doctor approves, I'd steer clear of sunscreen until she's 6 months old. Her doctor will also be able to make some suggestions as to the type of sunscreen to use. Depending on where you live, different types are recommended. In general, if the sunscreen is hypoallergenic and protects in a non-chemical way (look for the ingredients zinc oxide or titanium dioxide), it would be good for babies to use.

There is something to consider before deciding to buy a tent for there are large variety of tents. Can any experienced one intro. the styles and your favorite style or creative style ones?

The dome tent: These tents owing to their shape are most spacious and can be divided into rooms as well. Can fit a single person or a family as they come in both individual and family sizes. Easy to carry by backpackers, it is very popular in camping. Its shape makes it more heat efficient. The tents have a ârainflyâ which is water proof and helps in keeping the interior dry. So depending on what type of group you have Dome tents have various options. Even the windows come in clear or mesh options. Dividers are available if you need more privacy in the family dome tents. The family tents also have the option of tafetta walls to make it more sturdy. Dome tents are very easy to move if you decide to shift to any other location close by. The most important thing is it is very stable in windy conditions.

The cabin tent: Well, if you plan to go car camping and need room to stand then the cabin tent is your best bet. The cabin tents are big enough that you can actually park your car inside it. It is a huge tent that was designed for camping with your car. Some of them stand as tall as 8 ft giving it the room to have a party as well. . These tents are made with heavy material which helps for long durable. These are also exclusively used for hosting backyard parties, or for bigger family groups that go on camping.

The geodesic tent: These tents were introduced by the Buckminster Fuller. He was an engineer, author, inventor. Mr. Fuller was the one who introduced the geodesic dome in buildings. The geodesic dome is based on âtensegrityâ structures such as tetrahedron, octahedron which are a net of continuous structures that do not touch each other but form closely bound spheres which is just enough to not make them touch each other but also have enough tension in them to make them separate spatially to form a sphere.

I would really like to find a place that had shaded areas and trees. We stayed at Lakewood a few years ago, but there was no escape from the sun unless we stayed right in the camper.

Myrtle Beach State Park has the best shaded space in the Myrtle Beach area. It's even comfortable in a tent. Thing is, they don't have the same sort of amenities that Lakewood, Ocean Lakes, Pirateland, and Apache have.

The Myrtle Beach KOA is very nicely wooded but it's not oceanfront. As long as you have a car along it's really close to the ocean. I'd not want to make that walk in summertime - the traffic will run over you.

If I were RV camping here I'd pick MB State Park first and KOA second. Then it'd be a tie between Ocean Lakes and Apache.

I have yet to see a video on youtube that shows Occupy acting in a violent matter and I can clearly see, it is the police that are violent. I need something that'll keep them off the video games, computers, and television.

I make things such as homemade play-dough......i get a box and make a scene on the box and we draw, co lour and cut out things to go on the scene like a farm or space scenes.
Boardgames.....the game Headbandz is a really fun game depending on the ages of the kids. I bake cookies and have things set out for them to decorate their own. Collect rocks on a sunny day at the beach and then on rainy days they can paint them to look like animals. Thumbprint animals are fun..you let them dip their thumb in thin paint to make a print and give them markers to draw eyes and feathers. Set up a tent in the living room and have a camping trip with a fake fire with red and orange tissue paper with some little pieces of wood. Hope I gave you some ideas.

Besides the beach of course. I'll be going this summer with my then 1 yr old son and am looking for ideas. Also, are beach tents allowed there? I was only there once, a few years ago, and don't remember seeing any.

North of Cape May are either Wildwood or Ocean City, NJ. Both towns have great boardwalks. There are some kiddie rides that you could go on with your son (an elevated train, for example, in OCNJ). Treat your son to some Rita's Water Ice, too (yummy!).

The Cape May Zoo is a nice treat for kids, too.

Regarding beach tents: I'm not aware of restrictions, but you could contact the Cape May Chamber of Commerce to be sure.

Sorry, there's no tent camping anywhere on Siesta unless it's the kids in the family back yard. There's a little RV park near the beach, but tents are not allowed.

Since summer time is coming around and my second child is due in June I was thinking of getting a baby beach tent or some other UV tent for the family when going to the beach. My husband thinks it's ridiculous to buy one but my son and I burn easily (and so does my husband even though he doesn't like to admit it).

Have you used a baby beach tent and do you think it's a good investment? Why or why not?

I got a really good one from onestepahead.com. It springs up on it's own and the front and back open wide so that it stays well ventilated and doesn't get so hot (you can close them too for napping kids or nursing). It's fairly roomy too. The whole thing folds down and packs into a little bag that is much easier to carry than an umbrella. I think it's a good investment, I use mine at the beach all the time. The kids get changed in it too so we can avoid the restrooms.

2 friends and I are planning a walking trip along the west coast from San Diego to Seattle.Any advice on preparations? 2 of us will be carrying hiking backpacks and the other one of those all terrain carts to put stuff in. We will be bringing 27 cans of food that can be easily cooked . We will each start out by carrying 8 water bottles and purchases more on the way.I think it is fair for each of us to carry $200 for supplies.Should we pack my water purifier because I feel like we'll break it some how. We will also be packing first aid, 2 packs of moist wipes,glasses clean/repair kit,gps,cell phone. W e will be wearing jeans/cargo pants, a 5.11 shirt ,sweater, and a boonie hat.Also according to California penal section code 12370 we can wear body armor because our activities are lawful correct?We have 2 level ii kevlar vest and a stab proof vest. I think we will begin our trip on june 20th,2014.The distance between san diego and seattle is about 1260 miles,so that would be like 360 hours of walking.If we walk for 12 hours a day we should reach our destination in like a month? We will however stop at major cities like L.A. for a week and S.F. for 3 days?Should we just sleep on the beach when it is safe to do so because we a have a lightweight tent that can accomodate all 3 of us.I plan to start walking at Imperial beach. Any advice would gladly be appreciated because its been a dream of our for a long time now.
Also should we study the terrain on google maps or not.I think it will be resourceful but m friends want to go in blind because it adds suspense.Btw our average speed will be 3 mph.

I think you're going to need a little more planning for this expedition. Many sections of freeway in California prohibit pedestrians, so you will need to get special access from the CHP and Caltrans to walk along the side of the freeways. Oregon and Washington may have similar laws. Additionally, you will need permission through areas like Camp Pendleton (or just get a ride through them).

You say you will be carrying 27 cans of cookable food and 8 bottles of water. On a hot day, each person might go through a gallon of water per day. You might also want a stove and fuel tanks. Where will you be sleeping at night when you can't find a public beach/campground? You are going to come across many sections with no public access - are you planning on camping illegally? staying in hotels or hostels? You don't mention sleeping bags or mattresses.

You should plan out each day based on where you plan to end the day - a campground or hostel or hotel or friends house.

I don't think your estimate of being able to sustain a pace of 36 miles a day (12 hours x 3 miles per hour) is reasonable. I don't even think that 24 miles a day (8 hours x 3 miles per hour) is sustainable. You will need days for nothing but rest, and you will also need to do things like shop for food and toiletries and footwear, or do some laundry. I would strongly recommend trekking poles to help take some of the weight off of your feet. If you backpack for more than two weeks, your feet will likely change shape, and you'll need to buy new footwear that fits the new shape.

Before you and your buddies go all in on this adventure, maybe try going out for a 4-5 days to see what it is like. Take the train to Santa Barbara and walk back to San Diego, and see how far you get, with planning out your route. Plus it will help get you in shape, physically and mentally. You'll also find out how much food you'll be going through to keep up the calorie intake needed to sustain all that hiking.

Also, ditch the body armor. That will just weigh you down and draw unwanted attention. If you're worried about getting shot or stabbed, you probably should do more research about where to go and where to avoid.

So I just got this new cat and I don't know the vets in Lawrence plz tell me I think it's sick!

Sick pets need vets and you may find yourself in a
position of finding a new one. If you are a first
time pet owner or have moved to a new area you
might want a little help finding that vet, before you
need that vet. Get recommendations from friends or
neighbors that have pets. Find out why they like the
vet they use. Ask at the local dog park or beach. Look
them up online, see if you can find reviews. Visit the
places recommended, see for yourself what the place
is like. Is the place clean, odor free? Is the staff
attentive? How do they relate to the animals? Before
going make a list of questions you will want to ask so
you don't forget. 1-How long have you been in practice?
2- How many vets are on staff here? 3- Will the same
vet see my pet each time or will I get a different vet
without notice? 4- How long have the other vets been
in practice? 4- What are your emergency procedures
during business hours? After business hours? Arrange
for a tour. Ask their procedure in case of an emergency
during business hours and during off business hours.
One thing I would not ask a vet about is to recommend
a pet food. Vets, for the most part, are not nutritionalists.
They will generally recommend what ever brand of food
they stock and it is not necessarily a good quality food.
Please, research your pets food! If possible meet the vet(s).
You want a vet, and staff, you feel comfortable with and
confident about. When you go for that first appointment
does the Doctor listen to what you have to say? Does the
vet answer the questions you ask. Does he/she explain
things to your satisfaction, understanding? How does the
vet talk to your pet? Does the vet use your pets name?
Also you should communicate your expectations to the
doctor. If you want the vet to do what he/she feels
necessary to find the problem, tests, ex-rays, say so. If
you are on a tight budget, say so. The vet should know
whether or not you can afford that MRI that can run a
couple of thousand dollars.

If you need a specialist and have not yet found a vet you
trust to give you a referral call the VMA
(veterinary medical association) for a specialist referral in
your area. Or look the VMA up on line and check out
their list.

If you need low cost vet care, if that is your primary
concern there is hope. When it comes to your pets
health you want the best possible care. If low cost is
the best possible you can do there is a way to find it.
1-Start with your local Humane Society or local animal
shelters. They are probably working with vets that
charge a reasonable fee. Some will even let you bring
your pet to them for a low cost spay/neuter.
2-Vet offices are neighborhood businesses. If you find
a vet in an upper class neighborhood, expect to pay
premium prices. If you find a vets office in a poor
neighborhood the prices will most likely be lower.
3-Pick up the yellow pages and the phone. Have a pad
and paper to keep track of who you call and their answer.
Call vet offices and ask two questions. How much do you
charge for a spay on a 40 pound dog? How much do you
charge for a general exam? Those two questions will
probably tell you who is the most reasonable.

The exposed coasts are characterised by great mobility and consequently the associated problems can also be severe. Management of such shorelines requires great care.
These types of coastal profiles typically occur in connection with coastlines bordering medium large to large water bodies with dimensions from 100 km and upwards, storm wave climates with Hs,12h/y larger than 3m, micro to moderate tidal regimes, and moderate to macro storm surge regimes. There will often be a positive correlation between onshore wind speeds/wave heights and storm surge
The exposed littoral coast is characterised by a wide sandy beach and a wide shoreface with up to three bars; the coast can consists of dunes or cliffs.

Typical examples of exposed coastal profiles are found along the European coasts bordering the North Sea, the Atlantic and to some extent the Mediterranean and the North- and the South American coasts bordering the Atlantic and the Pacific Ocean

Sheltered or The protected coast will be characterised by a narrow beach or the complete lack of a sandy beach. The shoreface will be narrow and without any bars; the coast is often covered with vegetation right out to the beach and sometimes it is marshy with only very low cliff-like scars in the coastal formations. This type of coast occurs under arctic, temperate and subtropical conditions.

This type of coast is normally seen in connection with coastlines out to small bodies of water, for example fjords, estuaries and lagoons with typical dimensions of less than 10 km. The wind and wave climate is mild
The geology of the area has provided a very shallow nearshore zone, which protects the shore against severe wave action

From above points we can say that..the exposed as the name says..is more exposed to the waters ..so the salinity is more when compared to the sheltered..which are contacted with salt water only in case of high tides or floods...

Some friends and I are camping at on the beach this summer. Every guide I've read about beach camping says that we must get extra long stakes because of the sand. I'm having a hard time finding these - does anyone know a good store to buy them at, or what terminology I should use to search for them online?

You need curved or v section pegs, not the straight rod type unless they are very long ....and then you find a rock buried eight inches down just where you're knocking the peg in. Beaches do that deliberate..
If you can find some pegs with a saw-tooth edge, even better.
You can get thick plastic ones like that or straight-edged, quite cheaply, or wide alloy pegs fairly cheap or stainless steel, even titanium...very expensive for those..
Wide pegs can be shorter than thin ones and then you get still more grip in the sand without having to go very deep.
Another trick is to put heavy rocks over the pegs. Bang or push the pegs right in to the sand so they're flush,and use big hopefully flattish rocks so they don't tip or roll, to put some weight on them. Same on snow. Pile some rocks over the pegs and build a bank of snow along the sides and back of the tent for better stability. Some tents have snow valances for doing that...very handy.
You can also use boulders to tie onto, scooping sand out from the base to get low. Sometimes handy for one peg at least to get a good fix in one corner and use the boulder for shelter or privacy. Put the cord through the peg loop and right round the boulder, then tighten up and tie it off. Put the sand over again and you've got a low fixing without using a peg.
Of course sands vary like soils vary. On the west coast of Denmark we drove a convoy of big Army trucks right along the beach for twenty miles on the hard sand ....as good as a road.
Even cycling on it on holiday later was a dream....not hard going at all..
Normal pegs were fine in it too.

If I were you I would go to Bodrum. It has lovely, long, clean and hot beaches, sun, clear sea, surf and other water sport opportunities, scenic beauties, water parks, luxury and budget friendly hotels, a lot of British, American and German tourists who can be friends with you, great night life, a lot of historical places, traditional bath, traditional food, traditional music, traditional dance etc and itâs cheaper than the holiday resorts of other European countries.
