Answer
You have a great camping trip planned there. I live in Cali and have been to all the places except Gold beach. One day I hope to make it up there.

Just a suggestion; you and the kids might like the area around Kings Canyon better than Big Sur. It is beautiful and lots to do.

Go on the Trolley Car in San Francisco and the most crocked street is a kick! We found that Old Town Sacramento was very cool. So, spend a night there and see a show.

Just a couple more links for ya!

P.S.: I have heard that the KOA camp grounds are some of the best! I would get a list and give them a call.

Can someone please help with a cheap backpacker style itinerary for Australia in April/May 2014..?

Curious955

My sister and I (25/26) are traveling Australia soon and this is what we've got so far. Melbourne (6 days) -> Sydney (2 days) -> Blue Mountains (3 days) - Gold Coast (3 days) - Cairns (5 days) -> Uluru (2 days) -> Melbourne (2 days).

The cheaper the options the better although not compromising on safety as we're 2 girls traveling alone..? This is a completely new destination to us so any help with accommodation and travel between desitnations from anyone who's had previous experience will help a lot. We want it to be an adventurous trip and we're ok roughing it out a bit if needed.

Thank You! :)

Answer
You are covering a lot of ground there and much of it needs to be done by air, luckily plane tickets in Australia are pretty cheap, especially if you fly between secondary airport (eg, New Castle or the Gold Coast, rather than Sydney and Brisbane).

The alternative to consider is getting a bus pass where you can hop on and off in many different locations, allowing you to see smaller towns and cities on the back packer route (you get better accommodation for less money too)

Ok

here is the deal

1. Skip Uluru, the plane tickets are very expensive or you want to fly into Darwin and join an outback tour going to many places in that region.
2. Consider the Whitsundays and Airlie beach over the highly overrated Cairns (Airlie beach and the Whitsunday islands has a much better back packer scene)
3. Spend more time in Sydney (there is a lot to see) and less in Melbourne initially. Blue Mountains is a day trip from Sydney, though you can also take tents, hike and camp there (make sure you get maps before going as people get lost up there)
4. Gold Coast's surfer's paradise is expensive and touristy, worth visiting but remember it is a long stretch with loud surfer's, trendy broad beach, bushland fronted south port, and family orientated currimbum.
5. Try couchsurfing.org for free places to stay
6. Also try gumtree.com.au to find people who want to share a car trip somewhere
7. use meet.com to find local activities in the area (especially hiking on weekends so you can meet local people going on hikes)

I'm 14 and my family is a little messed up. It was perfect until my uncle and his family moved to South Carolina. He got a small house and a job, and for a little while, life was good. Then he lost his job. They moved to a smaller house and took in some friends, adding the total people to care for 8. Then one of their friends got pregnant. She had the baby last year, bringing the total up to 9. They lived a few months in the house until it got foreclosed. They now live on their pastor's land in tents and a small RV. Then, my aunt and uncle (other ones, same side of family) started getting in fights with each other. My uncle had lost his job, and so did my aunt. They are in the process of, or have already been divorced. She has now basically abandoned her family, a college age daughter and a college age son. Then, we never see my other uncle and his wife, because they aren't very good with people. My mother fights all the time with her side of the family, she can only trust her mother. But, my grandmother had breast cancer, and is now in a rehabilitative state. On my dad's side of the family, my Memere, (Grandmother, my ancestors are from Canada) whom i was very close to (people said we looked alike, we like the same things, she played the piano, loved music, wanted to be a vet when she was younger, and we both have awful teeth) passed away from a 2 brain aneurysms and a stroke April 13th, 2010. My family was going to visit my Grandmother in Myrtle Beach, and we were already there by the time we got the call she was probably going to die. We drove up the 14 hours and they took her off life support an hour after we got there. We saw her 2 days before, she had been perfectly normal. The thing I regret most is that in my haste to go to South Carolina, I forgot to say goodbye. My Pepere (Grandfather) has numerous health problems and is 70 years old. He may not make it too much longer either. And now, my immediate family, my father is deployed in Kosovo in this moment, making sure soldiers don't take a wrong turn and end up dead. He is not in a very dangerous area, but I worry about him the same. Now my mother, ( who also has numerous health problems including Chrons Disease and Diabetes) quit her job because she is going back to school. We will have a limited income for at least 10 months. My 16 year old brother probably has autism, or a small part of it. He never listens, and does whatever he wants, including trying to boss me around and beat me up. He has always been a difficult child. My 19 year old brother is also in the Army, and he is moving in with his girlfriend into the capitol of our state, which has a TON of crime. I'm worried about him, and if he doesn't start the his sophomore year in college by the time his name is put on orders, he will be deploying to Afghanistan in 2012. Both my brother and I have braces, yet another expense, plus, my family's cars break down all the time. I feel like my family is falling apart all around me. Find a way to honor your dead loved ones, walk for cancer and the cure, donate money from a tag sale for the cause, stuff like that. If your grandfather(s) do happen to pass away, remember that it's natural and you do have to get on with life. Mourn them for a while, but if one was a pilot, maybe buy a small model airplane and fly it on his death date every year. Make your charitable fundraisers a family affair, ask them for help, and they will help you and eventually stop fighting. You won't ever be alone, you are going to college (maybe) next year, you'll make a TON of friends, and maybe even find your soul mate. Friend that cousin you miss on facebook, so you can talk to him/her when you feel lonely and sad. Just remember, everything will have to get better eventually.

What to make out blankets?

Camelia Mo

i have old blankets and i am thinking to make something out of them what should i do?

Answer
I really love DIY <3

You could always clean the blankets and give them away, but since you're looking to make something out of them there are a couple of fun things you could try.

Before anything though just take two factors into consideration: a) do you have a plain blanket [so something that is either pure white or close to it], or is it patterned, coloured or both? and b) what is the material of your blanket [thick, thin, silk, etc.]

Then do a google search accordingly to get more accurate results. So if you happen to have a plain fleece blanket then do a search, like: new use for old fleece blanket or reusing fleece blankets

If it's flexible enough you could always make pillows out of them. This is even easier if your blankets happen to be coloured or patterned; then you'll have a type of accessory that would perfectly match your room or add an interesting accent to it.

If it's absolutely plain you can have fun decorating the pillow. You could do something like stitching on a different fabric or a design. You could also paint on it. This is one idea that will definitely get you inspired to experiment: http://www.radicalpossibility.com/2012/06/zero-effort-tie-dye-pillows.html

You could also mount your blanket onto the wall. One idea you can do that just came to mind: buy square frames and then cut strips of your blanket into the matching size. Pin it down or stich it onto a very thick fabric that will likely hold the blanket in place or glue it onto a thick paper, then place it into your frame. Or you could even make it into one big tapestry.

You could reuse your blanket to design a plain wooden hamper. I can't think of a technique to do that right now but I'm sure if you went on google and did a search you'll find plenty of DIY videos. You could even do that with any boxes or cupboards you have. Like if you have small wooden boxes, you can use the blanket for lining and then use these boxes to store things in them, whether they're things like your shoes and shirts or smaller ones such as make-up brushes (you can accent the make-up brush holder with a cloth ribbon). You could do this too with thick colourful boxes if you don't want the wood or don't have the wooden ones.

You could even use the old blanket to perhaps make cozies or other accessories for the kitchen. Perhaps mug mats if it's thick enough? Or if you have a pet, cut it to the desired size and use it for their own blanket, pillow, bed lining, etc.

If you have any kids (your own, your siblings, your niece(s)/nephew(s)) you could make a small little blanket just for them, like a knotted one. Or you could even let them borrow it for dramatic play whether to use as a cape, to make their own 'tent' or even for a picnic. On that note, if the fabric is suitable you could use it for picnics or if you go to the beach.

That's all I could think of really, but I'm sure if you did a more specific search you'll definitely stumble across even more creative ideas :)

Edit:
I just realized you could reuse the blanket as a bed cover :p

Edit 2:
Place mats for food, dish rags, towels for washing or dusting.
