How long will my Hermit Crab live?

Q. I have had my Hermit Crab for a few years now. I clean his tank out once every month and treat him properly. He lives in a 5 gallon tank with sand, water, food, a sponge, some rocks, other shells, and some shelter. I also got him at a local Pet Smart. He has showed no signs of death, but this is the longest mine has ever lived. His shell is a little bigger than a golf ball. How much longer will he live? Also when I clean out his tank I let him walk around and stretch his legs.

Answer
Hermit crabs can live 30+ years with the proper care. Carol from crabworks.com has had her same two hermit crabs: John and Kate for over 40 years! It's estimated that they live to be over 100 years old in the wild!

Here are some crab care tips:
·
Housing:
10gal glass tank minimum with glass or plexiglass lid is recommended, as it holds in heat and humidity better. It is important to vent the tank daily in order to allow clean air circulation. As a temporary home you can use a Large storage container- poke plenty of holes in the lid. Keep your house warm- or clip a low wattage clamp lamp to the edge of the rubbermaid container. Hermit crabs are found in tropical areas such as Florida or the Caribbean. They absolutely need the warmer temps and higher humidity.

Plenty of hiding and climbing places. Hermit crabs love to climb and need places to hide within the tank so they feel secure while they sleep during the day.

Temp:
70-80F

Humidity:
72-80% Allows the crabs to breathe through their modified gills

Substrate:
A mixture of moistened sand and coconut fiber or sand wet to sand castle consistency. Substrate must be deep enough so that your largest crab can fully burrow. This allows your crabs to build their molting tunnels. The moistened sand prevents the tunnels from collapsing while the crab is molting.

(Play sand is recommended- its cleaned beach sand. It doesn't cake when moist like Hermit Crab Calci sand does- hermit crabs have gotten injured due to this in calci sand). A 50lb bag of play sand costs $4 at walmart or home depot.

Frog Moss or Sphagnum moss pits make a great snack and keep humidity raised.
Make sure they have plenty of coco huts or other items to hide in. Fake plants work well for creating a hiding spot as well as climbing item. Hermit crabs love to climb!

Commercial Food Warning:
Majority of hermit crab commercial foods have insecticides in them. The insecticide is harmful to the hermit crabs because hermit crabs are from the arthropod (insect) phylum. It is best to offer dehydrated, freeze dried, and fresh foods to them. It is recommended that you give them different choices of fresh foods every other day. They need a variety of vitamins and minerals in their diet. Fresh foods: Hermit crabs eat much of what we eat- feed fresh unseasoned meats, fruits, veggies, and cuttle bone (found in bird section at walmart for $1= for calcium) or crushed oyster shells for calcium. Calcium is important to the molting process, it helps the new exo harden.

Water:
Needs access to both dechlorinated fresh and marine grade salt water. They need the water to be deep enough to allow them to clean out their shells. If you have very deep dishes make sure that they have an easy way out of the dish to prevent drowning. Vines, stones, and aquarium rock can be used to create a way out.

They need marine grade sea salt water (Instant ocean or oceanic works well- it costs around $5 for a box and lasts for a long time- it can be found at a pet store in the fish section).

A tap water conditioner will remove the chlorine and chloramine found in tap water. The chlorine causes blistering on the land hermit crabs gills and will cause them to slowly suffocate.

Shells:
Keep 3-5 per crab. Shell sizes should range from same as their current one to a bit larger. This will allow them to change shells when they desire and eliminate the shell fights. Hermit crabs love to change shells for fun and also after they molt (molting is where they shed their exo so they can grow).

Molting:
Needs moist diggable substrate such as Eco Earth bedding (reptile section) or playsand moistened to sand castle consistency- walmart or home depot for around $4/ 50lb bag.

It is not recommended to house a hermit crab alone as they are social creatures and can become depressed and pass away without a friend. With proper care hermit crabs can live up to 30+ years in captivity!

What breed of dog should I gett?

Claire

I live with my mom and cat (male, if it makes a difference) in a little town on lake Huron called Kincardine. It's about 2 1/2 hours away from Toronto.

We live in a house with a teeny backyard, but our neighboor is away for most of the year, and he let's us use his. His backyard is about the size of a soccerfield. Neither yards have a fence.

I would be the dogs main owner, but of course my mom would help too. I would be able to give the dog a walk once a day (if they even need it...) and groom it once a week, but I, honesly, would probably forget sometimes.

My mom leaves at 7:00am for work and returns at 4:30pm Monday-Friday. I leave for school at 8:15am and come home at 3:45pm.

My mom often has musical parties with normally about 5 people other than ourselves. I have little cousins (aged 2-8) that like to come visit for a day, and they of course would love my pet(s). They know to be gentle, though. I also have my friends over on weekends.

I was thinking about getting a puppy in the summer, so I can be home and train it an getto know it. Unfortuneatley, I go away in the summer. I'm going to my Dad's cottage the first week of July, Overnight camp the first week of August, and day camp (9:00-3:30) the second week of August. My mom and i think that this won't be enough time, as my summer vacation only has 75 days and I would be gone for 21, plus time I would want to spend with my friends. i could take the puppy with me, but how would it do at the beach?

Thank you SO much for reading all that!!

Answer
STEP 1: CHOOSING THE RIGHT DOG
Remember, some dog breeds are good for you, but not others. Some dog breeds are good for others, but not you. It all depends on your lifestyle and family. No dog breed is better than another. They are all equals! If people suggest dog breeds for you, donât listen to what they say because they donât know very much about you. All dogs are different and have many different types of needs (amount of exercise, training, food they need, energy level, size, etc.) that you may or may not be able to give to them! So here is a lot of info on getting a good dog for YOU and helpful tips and websites for dog owners!!!

Also, before getting a dog, you need to consider the followingâ¦.
-Are you and everyone in your family healthy enough to handle a dog?
-Do you have the money to buy the dog food, toys, and medicine from the vet? It costs at least $800-$1,000 the first year of owning a dog!!!!!!!!
-Are you willing to give your dog daily exercise?
-Are you willing to train your dog?
If the answer is ânoâ to even ONE of these answers, you are NOT ready for a dog.

Here is a great dog quiz that is ran by Animal Planet that determines dog breeds that will fit well into your lifestyle!

http://animal.discovery.com/breedselector/dogselector.do

Also, try this quiz! I think this one may be a little bit more accurate than the other. Maybe try using the results from this one insteadâ¦..

http://dogtime.com/matchup/start

After the quiz, do some homework on the dog breeds that the quiz suggested! Choose the one you think most fits your family! Check outâ¦.
http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/a.htm

STEP 2: WHERE TO GET A DOG?
ADOPT! Shelter dogs are VERY inexpensive ($50-$200) and are just as good as any other dog from a breeder! They are in need of a loving home! Are you willing to give a dog a second chance that may not even be alive the next day because no one adopted them? There are millions of dogs that die each year that have no clue what they have done wrong. They die wondering, âWhat terrible thing did I do to my master that meant so much to me to make them leave me all alone to die here with no one to love me ever again?â

Here is a great site that lists shelter dogs in your area! (first type in your zip code)

http://petfinder.com

This is what happens to shelter pets when no one was kind enough to save them. They will NEVER get another chance and never got a good life. http://www.flyingfur.com/i/discarded.jpg

Until there are none, rescue one.

If for some reason you can not or do not want to adopt, please get a PUREBRED (NO TEACUPS OR DESIGNERS) from a good, reputable breeder! DO NOT EVER EVER get a pet from a pet store! Most pet stores buy animals from PUPPY MILLS!!! Do you know what a puppy mill is? Well, look it up and I am sure you will understand why you do not want to be giving them more money by buying a pup to âbreedâ more dogs!

STEP 3: PREPARING TO GET A DOG
Also, if you are not an experienced dog trainer, here are VERY helpful websites that will help you train your dog properly!

http://www.dog-obedience-training-review.com/
http://leerburg.com/
Also, enrolling your dog in obedience classes will help tremendously. It is a learning experience for both you AND the dog!!! Watching âItâs Me or the Dogâ on Animal Planet really helps with dog training and so does âThe Dog Whispererâ on Discovery (I think it is on discovery).

Supplies:
-Water and Food Bowls
-Leashes
-Collar
-Dog Food
-Local Vet CHOSEN!
-Dog Bed
-Toys
-Treats
-Dog crate (optional)
- Brush

STEP 4: BRINGING HOME DOGGIE!
PUPPY: http://www.raisingspot.com/intro_bringing_puppy_home.php
ADULT DOG: http://www.paw-rescue.org/dog_guide.php

STEP 5: RAISING A GOOD DOG!
You need to give your dog a lot of things, but one of the most important things is going to the vet!

http://www.1800petmeds.com/ -(1-800-PETMEDS) go to this site (or call) where you can buy the same medicine your vet suggested, but for a cheaper price! WARNING: ONLY buy medicine your vet suggests from this site!!! Good luck! I hope I helped and have a wonderful time with your dog!

The key thing in raising a dog that will respect you is good, stern training that starts when the dog is a pup! Respect the dog, and the dog will respect you! You may give your dog food and love, and he very well may like you, but he very well may not respect you! You have to earn it! Dogs need a lot of attention, love, and training. Do all of these things, and they will be your loyal friend forever. I really hope I helped you out! That is what I am here for! Please, send this information to anyone who is thinking about getting a pet or will get one in the future. The only reason I write all of this is to help make the world a little bit better of a place for animals. So that even one person that reads this may save another. You alone can make a difference. I encourage you to adopt! Than

Tent camping in rain?

FoudaFaFa

Near ocean.Dont expect downpours or Tstorms but light to steady intermittent rain. Hate to cancel as only chance to get away from rat race for a while. I got all the info from REI about waterproofing tent....No kids coming so no wet cold kids to worry over. Will have tent and a tarp for covering Weather to be mild 60's cloudy/rainy.
DO YOU HAVE ANY ideas for... tent camping in the rain? is the question I like to make it short so people get the jist of the question since the answers cutit short otherwise
ideas for ...things to do to pass the time your past experiences etc
been camping before Yes but always looking for ways to improve I have plastic bins ready to go so I have the basics ready like matches kitchen stuff etc
thanks exp Dave and Denver I love the army and air force way comparison! And the reminder of the tsunami made me giggle too And it is in an area for that as well.

Answer
1. Use a rain fly. You do not want the rain to be falling directly onto the tent as it will wick thru.

2. Make sure you have good drainage around the tent. Do not pitch the tent in a dry stream bed as it will not be dry for long. You may have to trench around the tent to keep water from going under the tent.

3. If your tent uses stakes, there are two ways to drive them in.

ARMY WAY... the stakes are driven in IN LINE with the tent ropes. That way in a high wind, the stakes come up and the tent is not torn to pieces. After the storm settles down, you re-pitch the tent.

AIR FORCE WAY. the stakes are driven in at an angle away from the line and tent. That way the stakes can not pull loose from the ground. In a big storm the tent will stay up until it hits its failure point then it will be ripped to shreds. After the storm settles down, you go buy a new tent.

4. Pitching the tent on TOP of a hill or UNDER a tree is not a good idea, specially if the tent uses metal support poles. Make sure you are well above the high water/high tide/storm surge mark.

5. Make sure the door of the tent faces away from the prevailing winds. If straight on, the rain will get blown into the tent. At an angle to the wind your flaps will flap all night.

6. There is no such thing as water proof. Bring an extra tarp and clothing, specially dry socks.

7. If the ocean suddenly recedes from the shore, do not stand there watching it! Run as fast as you can to the highest point you can get to immediately. Do not bother trying to collect your stuff, just run. The receding water is the first half of a tsunami. You do not want to be sitting down on the beach when the second half arrives.

How many people regret getting married on the beach or outdoors?

Q. Would you have rather played it safe and had it indoors (someplace other than a church).

If you had your wedding outdoors, how did you manage to deal with wind, bugs, weather, and heat?

Answer
I had my second marriage on the beach, but it was very, very small and private so there were no concerns about weather. The more people you have, the bigger concern for their safety and comfort. My girlfriend did have the ultimate outdoor wedding from hell with 150 people, in spite of my warnings for her to have it indoors. On the day of the wedding, there was a torrential downpour with high winds that blew rain and wind into the overpriced white rental tents. At $50 per plate, I found it "interesting" to have to stand in a buffet line, watching the rain as it sprayed all over the food. The black mud footprints on the white carpet leading from her home to the tents added to the unique ambiance as well as the interesting display of muddied footprints extending throughout her home (of course, she had recently installed near white carpeting just prior to the event). But, the most impressive site on this event (other than the cold, wet food), was the interesting splatter of mudd on the pantyhose and lower hems of every female who had to walk from the tents to the house to go potty. I'll never forget what my girlfriend said: "This is my wedding and it was suppose to be beautiful. I arranged to have all these flowers planted in my garden and EVERYTHING!!!" So, unless you know what God is planning for the day, consider yourself warned.

Can someone please help with a cheap backpacker style itinerary for Australia in April/May 2014..?

Q. My sister and I (25/26) are traveling Australia soon and this is what we've got so far. Melbourne (6 days) -> Sydney (2 days) -> Blue Mountains (3 days) - Gold Coast (3 days) - Cairns (5 days) -> Uluru (2 days) -> Melbourne (2 days).

The cheaper the options the better although not compromising on safety as we're 2 girls traveling alone..? This is a completely new destination to us so any help with accommodation and travel between desitnations from anyone who's had previous experience will help a lot. We want it to be an adventurous trip and we're ok roughing it out a bit if needed.

Thank You! :)

Answer
You are covering a lot of ground there and much of it needs to be done by air, luckily plane tickets in Australia are pretty cheap, especially if you fly between secondary airport (eg, New Castle or the Gold Coast, rather than Sydney and Brisbane).

The alternative to consider is getting a bus pass where you can hop on and off in many different locations, allowing you to see smaller towns and cities on the back packer route (you get better accommodation for less money too)

Ok

here is the deal

1. Skip Uluru, the plane tickets are very expensive or you want to fly into Darwin and join an outback tour going to many places in that region.
2. Consider the Whitsundays and Airlie beach over the highly overrated Cairns (Airlie beach and the Whitsunday islands has a much better back packer scene)
3. Spend more time in Sydney (there is a lot to see) and less in Melbourne initially. Blue Mountains is a day trip from Sydney, though you can also take tents, hike and camp there (make sure you get maps before going as people get lost up there)
4. Gold Coast's surfer's paradise is expensive and touristy, worth visiting but remember it is a long stretch with loud surfer's, trendy broad beach, bushland fronted south port, and family orientated currimbum.
5. Try couchsurfing.org for free places to stay
6. Also try gumtree.com.au to find people who want to share a car trip somewhere
7. use meet.com to find local activities in the area (especially hiking on weekends so you can meet local people going on hikes)

Roadtrip stops from Brisbane to Cairns Australia ideas?

danielleyb

There are four of us (ages 19, 21, and two 23 year olds, one girl and three boys) driving from Brisbane to Cairns in late December and we've never been to Australia before. We're looking for any ideas that we can get for places to stay, things to do, places to grab food... We love the outdoors (surfing, hiking, being at the beach) and I'm a big foodie so any food stops will be much appreciated.

We're college students too so cheap is good but if there's something particularly amazing that's on the pricey side, throw it out there.

Thanks!

Answer
What are you travelling in . If it's a camper van then there are many rest areas where you can just pull in off the highway for a sleep . If it's a car then it might pay to get a couple of cheap tents from k mart or Big W and you can still stay the night in the rest area if you can find a grassy spot to set them up . There are dozens of towns on the way many of them have back packer hostels. You can go to a supermarket in the towns and maybe buy a cooked chicken bread roll fruit drinks and things like that for food. many towns have McDonald's . KFC. etc. You have to go into Airlie Beach and Shute harbour which is the gateway to The Whitsunday islands You go off the Highway at proserpine then drive for 15 minutes or maybe a little longer. Have you time to go down to The gold Coast for a few days before you head North from Brisbane. It takes 1 hour by train and you will see the best beaches in the world. If not then call into some of the beaches on the Sunshine Coast. places like Caloundra Mooloolaba and all along the coast there to Noosa. Once you get North of Rockhampton then you are coming into Crocodile Country especially around Cairns so only swim where you know it is safe and keep right back from the rivers. You will experience extreme heat and it can be exhausting. It is the start of the Wet season up North and not the best time to go. Always carry plenty of water sun cream insect repellent. If you are looking at hotels then go to www.wotif.com.au for last minute deals but it is school holidays so prices go up and the US dollar is weak and The Australian dollar high so you will find things expensive

Are homeschooled kids sheltered?

beaandbunn

I mean, everything I've heard says that they never leave the house. They're always stuck inside.. Isn't it hard to make friends with people if you're only with your family?
Does your mom give you a good grade even if you fail?
Couldn't you just look up the answers instead of doing any work?
Don't you get sick of spending so much time with family?
Look at some of my other questions.. It's easier to understand by reading.

Answer
Most certainly everything you have "heard" is true? I doubt it. In fact, I know it is not.

I am a mother of four children, none of whom have ever been to school. Yet they have been involved in Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, t-ball and baseball, basketball, gymnastics, theatre, horseback riding, one is about to start swimming and another is about to start gymnastics. These just being the organized activities that are NOT related to homeschooling- they are also involved in our homeschool group which has classes and activities. My oldest has had several jobs even though most children her age has not yet had one. There is also church, family, neighbors, getting together with family and friends to go bowling, to the movies, to the beach or park or waterpark or Chuck E Cheese or the mall, etc. Certainly not sheltered. They are not stuck inside, and we actually have to turn down opportunities for socialization so we can fit in academics.

So to answer your question "Isn't it hard to make friends with people if you're only with your family?" That would be difficult if that were the case, but it is not.

"Does your mom give you a good grade even if you fail?" I am sure this has happened on occasion, but most parents who make the commitment to homeschool want the best for their children and are not going to cheat because that is not what is best for them. While you are trying to make homeschooling look bad, you might want to look at the examples of public school authorities falsifying grades so that they look better.

"Couldn't you just look up the answers instead of doing any work?". That would be possible, but again most parents want the best for their children and are not goign to allow them to cheat. On the other hand, is rote memorization of useless material really education? Is it not good to know how to find the answers- because we will never know them all? In that situation, looking up the answers is a GOOD thing.

"Don't you get sick of spending so much time with family?" I love my family and spending time with them. Too much together time can be a problem at times, but that is why we have breaks- space to separate when we need a break, different activities for each of the children, each child spends time with each parent alone, etc. And again, homeschoolers are not stuck in the house all of the time.

Creative ideas to raise money?

Q. I am trying to go to this small beach and there is only one hotel there on the beach and the rooms are expensive per a night and so far i only have one night taken care of. But i need to make a reservation soon so i need more money. So i need ideas on how to raise money. I am going to have a yard sale in 2 weeks but that is to far. I am goin ask my neighbors if they have jobs around the house that i can do but that want give me enough money. What are some othere ideas that i can do. My parents are not willing to give any money either so there goes that option.

Answer
Is sleeping on the beach in a tent illegal were your from, it's a lot cheaper than staying in a hotel and your close to the beach when you wake up, but why not have a car wash or go door to door asking neighbours and friends if you can take in beer & pop bottles and cans, become a dog walker for people who don't feel like taking there dogs for a walk, there are tons of ways to make money.

Permits and licenses?

Cap'n Jack

I am going to start an airbrush tattoo business and I plan to have my tent set up near the beach. Who would i call to get permits that would to be allow me to have my business there, and would there be some kind of fee?
I know the general area that I would want my tent (a stretch of grass near the sidewalk that lines the beach) and it is public land

Answer
Whatever government body administers the land would issue a permit. A public beach could be administered by the city or some park agency. The easiest way to know is who do the cops work for. You will also need to obtain permits from the state if there is sales tax in your state. If you pierce the skin in applying an airbrush tattoo you will need a health department permit. Start with the city and they will tell you from there where else you need to go.

Good place to Fish Ocean in San Diego.?

Q. Im from AZ and going to San Diego this weekend. I'll have a car. Where can I find a nice spot to fish the shore? Not really a beach though.. I have no idea what anything is so Kinda explain. Il be coming from Santee.

Plus do I need a license to fish the ocean? Any good tips on what to use also?

Answer
Okay, let's get you setup correctly and legally.

You need a license to fish if you are 16 or older. The only exception to that is fishing off of a public pier like the Shelter Island Municipal Pier. A license is not needed there.

You want to fish in the ocean, but not necessarily from a beach. That leaves you two options. You will either fish from a boat or fish from the rocks. A boat would be the way to go. Checkout Seaforth, Islandia or H&M Sportfishing to name a few. You can go out for a 1/2 day or 3/4 day ocean fishing trip. If you have the time and money you could do full day or multi-day trip.

If going on a boat is not in the cards you are left fishing off the rocks. First off that can be dangerous. A rogue swell could knock you into the ocean and that would ruin your day. Secondly, fishing off rocks is weird because whatever you catch has to be reeled across other rocks and finally up onto your rock. Too great a chance of losing whatever it was you hooked.

Here's another option for you. Fish at the end of Mission Blvd. off the jetty at South Mission. If you walk out far enough on the jetty it's the same as fishing in the ocean. You will see what I mean when you get there. It's rocky, like a jetty is supposed to be, but you can always find someway to prop up a small chair to be comfortable.

The fish are usually bass, croaker, halibut, small sharks, sting rays and bat rays. Occassionaly something bigger like a bonita or barracuda will take your bait there. I suggest using either live or frozen anchovies to start with. Blood worms are good too, especially for bass and croaker.

Fish with the sinker on the bottom. Tie your hook about 3-4 feet above your weight. Checkout a leader and hook setup called a crappie-rig. This keeps your bait from wrapping around your main fishing line and lets it float freer.

Other than that just have a good time and hope that the weather cooperates with your plans

Does anyone know any good campsites in Northern California?

Darla

I am looking for a campsite not too far from the Bay Area, like 2.5 hours max. I am 22 and planning on going up with a group of friends (6 of us) and I am looking for a campsite that is low on cost, and one where we won't get in trouble for making a little (really just a little!) noise past curfew. We are not loud, rude or abrasive, we just may not want to go to bed at 10pm. Thank you in advance!

Answer
Bay Area camping
(links to pages for parks with hiking, or nearby)

North Bay (Marin, Sonoma, and Napa Counties)
⢠Angel Island. Hike-in campsites. (For descriptions, go to the Angel Island website)
⢠Austin Creek State Recreation Area. Tent and backcountry campsites.
⢠Bothe-Napa Valley State Park. Tent and RV campsites.
⢠China Camp State Park. Walk-in campsites.
⢠Doran Regional Park. RV and tent campsites. Since this park is situated on an exposed, sandy spit on the south side of Bodega Harbor, there's not much privacy.
⢠Marin Headlands (GGNRA). Walk-in and group campsites. (For descriptions go to the GGNRA camping page)
⢠Mount Tamalpais State Park. Walk-in campsites at Pantoll and cabins at Steep Ravine Environmental Campsites. The Pantoll sites are well-shaded, but uncomfortably close to both Panoramic Highway and the Pantoll parking lot.
⢠Point Reyes National Seashore. Hike-in campsites. (For descriptions go to the Point Reyes camping page)
⢠Samuel P. Taylor State Park. Tent and RV campsites.

East Bay (Alameda and Contra Costa Counties)
⢠Anthony Chabot Regional Park. Tent and RV campsites.
⢠Del Valle Regional Park. Tent, RV, and youth group campsites.
⢠Mount Diablo State Park. Tent and RV campsites.
⢠Sunol Regional Wilderness. Tent and group campsites.

South Bay (San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Santa Cruz Counties)
⢠Big Basin State Park. Tent, walk-in, and RV campsites, and tent cabins.
⢠Butano State Park. Tent and RV campsites.
⢠Castle Rock State Park. Hike-in campsites.
⢠Half Moon Bay State Beach. Tent and RV campsites, on a bluff just above the ocean.
⢠Henry W. Coe State Park. Tent and RV campsites, plus backcounty camping.
⢠Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park. Tent and RV campsites.
⢠Grant County Park. Tent, RV, and youth group campsites.
⢠Sam McDonald County Park. Youth group campsites and horse camp.
⢠Memorial County Park. Tent, RV, and group campsites.
⢠Mount Madonna County Park. Tent, RV, group, and youth group campsites.
⢠Portola Redwoods State Park. Tent and RV campsites.
⢠Sanborn-Skyline County Park. RV and walk-in campsites.
⢠Uvas Canyon County Park. Tent and youth group campsites.

Camping and Backpacking the San Francisco Bay Area, by Matt Heid (order this book from Amazon.com). All bay area camping and backpacking destinations are described in this book, which includes park maps for the car and hike-in campgrounds, and trail maps for the backpacking excursions. General trail info helps in planning hikes. I do wish Heid's book encompassed coastal Sonoma County campgrounds like Pomo Canyon and Bodega Dunes, and there are no campgrounds maps, a feature I really miss. Despite those quibbles, this is a great guide for bay area campers who love to hike.

⢠California Camping, by Tom Stienstra (order this book from Amazon.com). I refer to this book constantly when planning camping adventures in the state, and find it best used to obtain campground specifics and a general feeling for a place. My problem with the book is that I have a hard time following the driving directions. As an example, when driving to Letts Lake, in the Mendocino National Forest, the directions refer to a series of junctions, and instruct the reader to turn right or left, without ever mentioning the names of the roads. For me, this is the book's biggest shortcoming; it may be impossible to include more detailed driving directions, since each campground profile has a limited amount of space. In any case, for campgrounds way in the middle of nowhere, I always supplement this book's driving directions with either AAA or National Forest maps.

i need some info on california camping?

Ethan C

OOOOkkkk..
well, me and one of my best friends have been schemeing to take a bus to california for a few weeks next summer (we live in michigan), and we want to start making plans so we know how much money we will need to save up.
what we first need to know is, where do we stay?? we are both avid outdoorsmen, and agree it would be MUCH cheaper and just as fun to stay in a tent. We'd like a campground that allows tents, but is close to the beach, and close to a town so we can go shopping ( it would be best if it was a town with lots of parties too :P), and would let minors stay without adults. Also, i was wondering if it is legal to just pitch a tent on the beach and stay there?
Next- can someone tell me the legal driving age in california, and also tell me if it would be legal for us to drive, even though we have michigan registered licenses? if we are legal to drive, we would be old enough to rent a car, or would we have to take one of our own instead of a bus?
thanks :P

Answer
The driving / car rental questions have already been answered.... So I'll skip that part.

Unfortunately, you can't just camp on the beach, that's a big no. However, there are some campgrounds that have beachfront sites, but they are usually reserved far in advance (check ReserveAmerica.com for site availability).

Did you want to just camp, or did you want to go see the sites while you're out here? You might want to investigate the campground you'll be in if that's the case. In some campgrounds, I wouldn't leave your stuff at the site for too long while you're out and about. Better to have a vehicle to lock it in. An example is San Onofre State Beach in Southern CA - it's right along the freeway with campsites up on the bluffs, and the campground is well south of the nearest town. It's a world class surf destination, but unfortunately there's enough riff raff there that will "go shopping" in your camping gear while you're down at the beach or in town getting supplies.

A few of the beach front sites up near Santa Barbara only allow RV's and trailers too, so check the rules on each park before you commit. In addition to beach camping, there are some great spots to go that are in the mountains - so don't rule that out. Coming from Michigan, the mountain atmosphere will be a great experience too.

If you guys can drive together, you could plan it out to camp on your way out, hitting a variety of really cool places. You could drive out Hwy 40 and hit the Grand Canyon for a night or two, then on thru to CA. You can hike in Joshua Tree National Park, check out Vegas, etc. Or you can take the northern route through Colorado. Once you hit I-15, you can go north to the Sierra Mountains, or South to SoCal. Lots of beautiful places to see.

If there are 2-3 of you, driving may actually be cheaper than bus tickets... they aren't exactly cheap!

North Wales is the perfect place to spend the Summer!
When I was 17 I went to Wakestock festival in Abersoch, and had so much fun. Get a good gang of boys and girls, a tent and and a lot of beer- amazing. Start saving up now, it's quite pricey but worth every penny!
How about go-karting? http://www.glasfryn.co.uk/ -This place near Pwllheli is really fun, loads of my lad mates go on their stag do's there.
Not sure which part of North Wales you're in, but you've got loads of nice beaches- lleyn peninsula is really nice.
Nothing to do in North Wales? Really?!
You live in one of the most beautiful parts of the Uk- make the most of the countryside! You could get a group together and climb up Snowdon.
A few more places are- http://www.thefuncentre.co.uk/ (looks childish but they do adults night!),

* A U S T R A L I A - Back Packing. HELP! Is it safe? Best things to do? Where to visit? Where to stay?

Q. So.. I'm a 22 year old going back packing with a friend and Australia is the place we shall be visiting after africa, egypt, china, japan, thailand etc.

I need to find out loads of things like:

Is it safe to go back packing in Australia ?
Where are the safest/ cheapest places to stay while in Australia ?
Is it safe and legal for me to set up a tent/camp anywhere in Australia ?
What really are the best things I must do while in Australia ? Diving, lakes etc ?
What parts of Australia should I enter, and what parts should I NOT ?
Do I need to apply for a visa before I enter Australia ? If not, how long does the visiting visa last for ?
Is it legal for me to find work there if I need more money? If so, is it easy to find work ?
What's the fastest & cheapest way to get around Australia ? bikes, buses, fly, boats, trains ?

After Australia I will be staying in New Zealand! I guess the best way is to fly there ?

SO MANY questions here, and more.. that I really need answering, so far no one is able to help me :(

I beg you! for any serious answers, please!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!!! If you try to help me out!

Answer
Australia is a very safe country though we do have our share of crime and violence - you'll be fine if you use normal commonsense. It's MUCH safer here than Africa and Egypt for example.

Camping grounds are the cheapest and they're all over the place. Next cheapest will be a hostel and there's a huge network of very good ones located in all of the best places.
http://www.bugaustralia.com/essentials/hostels.html

Most local authorities will frown on you just setting up a camp by the side of the road because of litter and hygiene concerns but there will be a rest area or camping ground not too far away where you'll be able to stay.

I can't believe the other person who said there's not much to do here! The country is too huge and varied to do more than touch on a few suggestions but you mustn't miss our thousands of km of magnificent surf beaches, beautiful estuaries, diving or snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef, the Blue Mountains, sailing in the Whitsunday Passage, Fraser Island, North Stradbroke and Moreton Islands, Pumicestone Passage, our temperate rainforests, our tropical rainforests, whitewater rafting, our beautiful cities, the Great Ocean Road and hundreds more and that's just the east coast and the eastern corner of the south coast. You won't see Australia and do it justice in under 6 months and you really need much longer.

The only places you can't and shouldn't enter are Aboriginal reserves if you don't have a permit. Everywhere else is open to you - no private beaches, no no-go areas though be very aware of crocodiles if you're thinking of camping on or near a beach or river in the far north - we lose a couple of people to crocs every year so the danger is very real.

You MUST have a visa before you come to Australia - you won't be able to board an aircraft headed here without one. You haven't told us where you're from so it's not possible to answer any more specifically about visas though it will be difficult to get a tourist visa for any longer than 3 months. The only possible visa that will allow you to work is a 12 month Working Holiday or Work and Holiday visa but that's only a possibility if your country participates in the program. If not, you are not allowed to work under any circumstances. Casual work like food and bar work and fruitpicking will be fairly easy to come by.
http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/working-holiday/visa-options.htm Working Holiday visas
http://www.immi.gov.au/visitors/tourist/visa-options.htm Tourist visas

Fastest (and often the cheapest) way of getting around is flying but you'll overfly many of the must see places and must do activities if you only travel that way. Probably the best and cheapest way if you can afford the initial outlay is to buy a cheap campervan - you'll be able to sell it again before you leave for not much less than you paid for it. Otherwise, hop on - hop off buses are probably the best. The distances are generally too huge for bicycles.
http://www.ozexperience.com/
http://www.rex.com.au/Backpacker/default.aspx This one will get you to some amazing places very cheaply.

The ONLY way to get to New Zealand is to fly.

How can I get a beach-worthy body by summer?

Q. So I'm 5'7-5'8" and weigh 151. I used to weigh 156, but I lost 5 pounds! Yay, but it sadly doesn't make much of a difference. Anyways, I want to get a hot, sexy body. I have really nice boobs, but the rest of it is "meh." Especially my stomach area...ugh! I have a big waist and a lot of stomach fat that I'd like to get rid of. My goal weight is 140, but I might wanna lose more if my stomach isn't flat at that weight. What are some ways to get a flat stomach and a thinner waist? And tips on losing weight in general. I want to make sure that my boobs WON'T shrink. thanks(; Also, can you give some tips on how to stay motivated? I really want this! I'm sick of feeling insecure...I'm so close to a good body, I just need to push through! Ugh! Thanks so much!;D

Answer
When you are losing weight, you should exercise and diet together.
If you exercise without dieting, you will get bigger appetite, which
will lead to increase of weight, or muscle grow
underneath the fat layer, and make you bulkier. If you diet without
exercising, you will become flabby and will have excess skin. For
diet, go wheat free. No pasta, pizza, bread and so on. And no food
after 7 p.m. People achieve marvellous results with it. Depending on
your initial weight, you can drop upwards from 20 pounds a month. If
you don't eat wheat then you don't eat all those sticky, fatty goey
cakes, you don't eat junk food, and you don't eat biscuits. But your
diet is still balanced. It costs nothing, and you do not have to
calculate points or to buy special meals or plans. For exercising,
start with walking, and then switch to running/jogging. Running is the
most efficient and calorie-burn exercise ever. If you are overweight a
lot, walk first or you may have health complications (heart attack,
disjointed bones and so on). Weight lifting is a good means to target
your problem areas for men and women. It's not necessarily to become a
bodybuilder or even join a gym - a couple of dumbbells will help you
to target your problem areas (stomach, butt, legs, arms, chest).
How to motivate yourself to lose weight.

1. Announce it to a bunch of people. Tell your family and friends
that you are going to lose N pounds a month. It helps, because,
others will expect you to change and will ask you about your
progress.
2. Make a bet. Either with another friend, who is trying to
lose weight, or with someone who does not. You will feel like
winning, and winning that (maybe not that large) sum of money.
3. Buy a cute outfit, the size you want to become, and try it
on every evening.
4. You will need to exercise to lose weight, so find an
activity that you really enjoy.
5. Combine your goals. Say, you joined a gym, or started using a
swimming pool, or joined a badminton
club - use the occasion to meet people of opposite gender and
socialize. This way, exercise will be more enjoyable.
6. Keep a track of your progress. Photograph yourself once a week,
weight yourself, put the data down and make it your weekly ritual.
Seeing progress really helps.
7. Put photos of athletic looking men or women on your fridge. Every
time you open the door, you will look at them, and want to be like
them, that will help with binging.
8. Find same-minded people. Join a club, or find a group of people
who are trying to lose weight, to mutually support each other.
It will boost your social life, too.
9. Often, people eat because they are bored. Evaluate your life and
try to find ways to make it more interesting (evening classes, going
outs, volunteering, a new hobby). This will keep you busy and keep
your mind off eating.
10. Spend more time with your dog or get one from a shelter. You will
do a good deed, plus will keep active and occupied, walking it out.
Meet other dog lovers in your area, to make it more sociable.

Going to the beach this summer, and need a "shelter" for shade?

johnjanetl

I have looked online at many umbrellas, but they only seem to shade two adults at the most, plus you have to buy an anchor...this leads you close to, or even over a hundred dollars for a quality umbrella. I have looked at many canopies also that are well over $100 plus, and some with bad reviews.

I found two options that may work, but there is a huge price difference, and no reviews at all whatsoever to help in choosing.

Option one:
http://www.target.com/CoolHut-Shelter-Seats-Blue-Gold/dp/B001LEC4FI/sr=1-18/qid=1236046385/ref=sr_1_18/175-4751631-1361609?ie=UTF8&frombrowse=0&pricerange=&index=target&field-browse=1038576&rh=k%3Acabana&page=3

Option two:
http://www.swimoutlet.com/product_p/11478.htm

Which would you choose and take a chance on without any feedback before purchasing? Or do you have another shelter option or idea that is cheaper?

Answer
You may want to check to see if the beach you are visiting allows anything larger than an umbrella? At Daytona Beach, you can rent umbrellas so you don't need to buy one or install it, they do it for you. Visit tripadvisor.com a free site that has info for any area you may plan to visit from people who have first hand experience there. Have fun.

Tent Camping on the Beach?

Q. Has anyone ever camped on the beach?
I am considering taking the kids up to Lake Erie to camp on the beach there.
I don't have a "special" beach tent. I want to use my smaller nylon dome tent.
Will I have trouble with this?

Answer
Do not need any "special tent". We are using a 2 man pop up camping tent(link below) and it work well for beach camping.Wind can and will be a problem. We actuall had one of those canopies get away from us in some high winds at the beach , but that was just a daytime setup. I imagine the wind gets pretty rough there, unless you can get back and out of it somehow. if there{s a lot of night wind the tarps can get pretty noisy. Try to find a sheltered are if there is any. But beach camping is great fun and pretty comfortable. You might need to empty the tent and shake out excess sand every day or two though. Night time may not be so bad though.

camping TENTS??? (pic)?

Can i get those cute little kids camping sets a like wal mart? Or where else?
ones like these:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51mZEsbU36L._SL500_.jpg
or
http://www.bossgoo.com/photo/product4/775319/product-Kids-Camping-3pcs-Set.jpg
and also: it doesnt have to be all cutsey, just like a smaller sizze.
thanks in advance

Additional Details
also, are they like SUPER small? cause its for my 13 year old, she said she wanted a tiny, cozy and content one like that. (x

ALSO: cause i am pretty sure i have seen them in the wal mart stores but they are not online so i was a little worried.
thanks guys.

Answer
These kinds of items like in the picture, including anything with a cartoon character on it, are more of a toy than a serious piece of camping gear. They probably are not weatherproof for one, and I bet they aren't very durable.

But you can get "real" tents that are kid sized for different amounts of money. Here is a youth tent from TexSport

http://www.amazon.com/Texsport-Brookwood-Youth-Dome-Tent/dp/B001C0GWUE/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1269683114&sr=1-14

You can also get an authentic bivy shelter or a backpacker's or bicycler's tent. These are all small, lightweight, and minimalist design so they are easy to carry. They are used by adults with almost no room to spare, but for a child, they would still be pretty cozy, and they are meant for real camping. Note that the term bivy is used to describe both a sleeping bag cover, which you don't really want for this, and a narrow tent. Here is a search result page for those.

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dsporting&field-keywords=bivy&x=0&y=0

You also may have some luck with a beach type shelter, including some pop up cabana type things which tend to have a small footprint, since they are used by people in a sitting position. These are meant for real use, but not necessarily camping. Many are meant for shade, but may not be waterproof or durable enough for any sort of campsite other than sand.

Just make sure whatever you get is meant for real use as a camping piece, that is has all the right working parts just like a grownup's, and is meant to be used outdoors instead of being set up in the playroom, etc.

EDIT: Your 13 year old will not fit in any play tent I have ever seen unless she is super small. Even if she did, she is bound to hit a growth spurt any day now. Go with a backpacking tent or a bivy shelter! It will be plenty cozy...this is past the age of toy tents in my opinion. If she is showing interest in camping, get her some real gear and teach her how to do it right!

Does anyone know if sun shelters are allowed on Waikiki beaches?

Jessica

I assume the larger sun shelters are prohibited on Waikiki beaches as they strictly prohibit 'tents' to control the homeless. Does anyone know if a baby size cabana would get the boot? Or what is allowed? I'd appreciate answers from people who know rather than speculate. Thanks!
Since 'Smarter Than You' is such an idiot he didn't understand the question, I will clarify for future morons who might take a crack at this. There are small sun shelters for infants on the market, as well as other products that protect infants from the sun. I'm wondering which product would be the best for Waikiki beaches considering the prohibition on tents.

Answer
No. They strictly prohibit tents. Don't get all cutesy and call your tent a "baby sized cabana"

How to rent small space on beach?

Jackie O

I live in nj & im planning a 40 person baby shower.
How do you rent a small space on a beach to put a party tent up?

Answer
Depending on which beach you plan on using, you would need to contact the town or the state parks department about this. In some places, it may be fine to do this without permission or without a permit, as long as you follow the rules of the beach, which may include no loud music, no glass, no alcohol, etc.

What is the best 4 man pop up tent that i can get for £70?

Q. What are the best makes of pop up tents and which one would you say is the best for a 4 man highly waterproof tent. I do not want anything but a pop up/quick pitch tent, and it's need to be easy to buy online from the uk

Answer
Millets have some good deals on at the moment. Eurohike have a corny name but they are pretty good for the price.
Buy online or in your local shop....link below.
You want highly waterproof pop-up 4-person tent for £70 though.
Ok. I'd like a Mercedes Sl35 but pay for a Ford Fiesta. We can dream.
The waterproofing is still OK though even on budget tents as long as you're not going to the Highlands or the Hebridean islands on a wet blowy day or expecting it to let in absolutely no rain during a four day rainy festival.
I use one to save wear and tear on my good tents for fishing off the rocks and beaches and for local walks in the hills where it can blow pretty bad and chuck it down, but that's close to home.
Nothing too bad if the tent fails. So far it's been OK but I pitch tighly and in as much shelter as I can find on our windswept hills with the tent orientated for the best wind protection.
To get the best performance you need to pitch it tight with no loose bits anywhere. Water runs off tight fabrics instead of collecting in puddles or making little rivers.
If it's got guy lines (some pop-up's don't) then get them well placed and tightened up all round to keep even pressures on the tent in wind. Pop-up's are not made for rough conditions-
If you buy a tunnel tent, as the pop-up's mostly are, you can use a sheet of polythene or a big lightweight groundsheet from B&Q, Aldi, Homebase etc as an extra cover. They have eyelets already fitted and you can use plastic coated washing line for guy lines.
It also gives more wind protection by helping to keep the tent stable in wind and aids the pegs in keeping the tent fixed to the ground if it's pegged out well enough, and it saves wear on the tent.
When you pitch the tent it's best to put a groundsheet down first and pitch the tent over it. Then tuck in the groundsheet all round and water flowing off the tent will stay outside and not soak in under the floor. It also keeps the base of the tent clean and dry and again saves wear and tear.
Like this groundsheet for a small one. It looks like Glencoe but it's in Peru.

It's best to buy some strong pegs. The pegs supplied with budget tents are never much good and for a pop-up tent in a wind you could be saying bye-bye to the tent as happened at Glastonbury this year.

Camber Sands camping?

Sam H

Hey, me and a few mates are planning on going to Camber Sands for a few days camping, but I just had a few questions that I would love to have answered:

1. Can you legally camp on Camber Sands? If so, is there a limit to the amount of tents you can erect on the beach?

2. Can you light fires on Camber Sands or have BBQs on the beach (they'll only be small)?

Thanks for your time :D

Answer
Hi, Camber Sands is really nice. Lovely all round there. I've moved away up north now but I still get there at times on family visits.
You can't camp on the sands but you can put up a beach shelter and use a small tent for a beach shelter.
If you're caught sleeping in it at night that's your concern. You might get away with a warning but you could be in for a court appearance so weigh it up yourself.....
You can't have fires, however small. The fines even for small fires can be very big so don't risk it.
You can use disposable BBQs with proper safety and care, or a camp stove so long as you don't interfere with other people's enjoyment of the beach which means keeping enough distance between your kitchen arrangements and odours and other people.
There is a very good camp site at Camber Sands with decent facilities and a lot of space. It gets very popular so getting a booking at this time of the year at short notice isn't easy. Also, nearly all camp sites don't like groups of young people and it can be impossible to find a place that will accept a group of under-25s even.
If you are all under 18 just forget all about getting a booking at a camp site in the UK or in most of Europe..
No camp sites are really cheap these days and sometimes a B&B or a backpacker hostel can be cheaper than putting up a tent on a camp site.
http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=1579 . . .
Wild camping ( not on a site) isn't a great idea around Rye and the rest of the south east coast. It isn't the kind of country were you can get away nicely hidden somewhere and if you get caught you can be in big trouble.
I've camped wild all over the UK and round the world but the south east and southern coasts are not good for it in most areas.
There is one beach though in Sussex where you can have small fires...small ones.
On Brighton beach there are often a load of students and others who have all-night beach parties.
It's fun on Brighton beach at night and there's enough space under the pier to sleep a hundred people when the rain comes calling.
I've slept under there a few times.
Some small tents are on the beach sometimes and sometimes people sleep in them.
Sometimes they are convenient hidey holes doubling as hotel rooms for social activities of the reciprocating kind with whoever you just fell for at some party or other.
Brighton is a bit err, sociable that way. Take care if you get caught up in party fever after a few beers or vodkas on the beach.
You don't know where people have been. Or what they brought back with them
Gatwick airport is just up the rail track a few miles, with direct trains all day to Brighton. I use them every few weeks
More on here, Brighton beach and wild camping in the UK.

Will award points. Going camping...need ideas for staying clean and good smelling.?

Q. Im going away for a few days and for about 4 day im going to be roughing it. ill be horse back rideing and hiking and camping outdoors with no shower or bathroom. what are some ideas that will help me stay clean and good smelling. i already bought dry shampoo for my hair and deoderant. but i cant use body spray because of misquetoes and bugs. i need some ideas like baby whips for a sponge bath etc. i also need ideas on how to keep my face clean and clear. i use proactive but i cant use that with out water. so i need ideas for acne or face washes that can be used in the woods. and also something to put my garbage in when im done. any ideas will be helpful. thank you
PS. will award points.

Answer
I can;t imagine there will be NO source of water. Most camping areas have at least a pump and if you are horseback riding there has to be some kind of water available at that facility. Bring a plastic gallon jug of water from home that you can refill from a tap as you need it. Also bring from home (or buy if you have to) a large lightwieght plastic bowl, like the ones they sell for putting chips in at picnics (places like Walmart, Kmart, Target should have them in the outdoor furniture or kitchen departments.) Also a plastic gallon sized ice cream tub would work if you have one of these. This is your outdoor "sink". Also buy a box of the gallon sized zip-lock baggies -- these are for your trash and also to carry your cleaning supplies. Bring several washcloths and a large lightweight towel -- a cheapo beach towel is ideal. The thinner the better since it will dry faster. Bring a small bottle of liquid soap -- actually a travel sized baby shampoo works fine.

When you want to wash, find a tree or bush to hang your towel up for a screen, or do this on your knees inside the tent. Strip down (naked or to your underwear if you are feeling nervous). Fill the plastic bowl with water from the jug, wet a washcloth and put a couple of drops of the soap or baby shampoo on it, suds up the cloth and wash yourself all over, occasionally rinsing the washcloth in the bowl of water. Don't use lots of soap -- you need very little, it is the water that is dissolving the dirt and stink. When you are done, wrap up in the towel and dry off. Using baby powder (the unscented cornstarch type) afterwards will help you feel fresh. When you are all done, hang the towel and washcloth in the sun on a tent or bush.

A great item you can buy from camping stores is a Sunshower -- a black plastic sack with a shower nozzle attached. YOu fill it with a gallon or two of water, leave it in the sun and it heats up to 100 degrees F, as warm as a normal shower. Then you can hold it or hang it in a tree, release the nozzle clip and have a warm shower all over. I love mine.

Baby wipes or feminine hygeine wipes are good for daily small cleaning up. The alcohol type facial wipes are better for the face and hands because they are not oily.

I've lived for as much as two weeks camping or at archeology or geology field camps and kept clean this way.

Campground on Lake Michigan?

Mhari

We are going camping this summer and I haven't found a good campground. I'm looking for somewhere in northern Michigan (around Ludington or Muskegon maybe) thats inexpensive. Not an RV park, as we will be tent camping. It will be 4 14-year-old girls, plus my mom and aunt. I would like it to be ON Lake Michigan, so we don't have to drive to get there. Thanx!

Answer
Mhari,

I was just at Ludington State Park (again) this past weekend. http://www.michigandnr.com/parksandtrails/Details.aspx?id=468&type=SPRK Expect most weekends to be booked already here. Bring camera, bikes, tubes, canoe, fishing equip, kayak, etc. There is a river running through the park, large lake for swimming, miles of hiking and biking, Also, WalMart, Kmart, and more available in Ludington. Kayaks are also available for rent in Ludington near House of Flavors. (look for large green fish sign)

Firewood at "J's" on 116 was $3.50, in the Park it was $4.60 but larger pieces.

Many of the campsites located on the outsides of each campground (especially The Pines) are good for tents. Those on the west side of The Pines back to sand dunes and are around 300 yards to Lake Michigan.

There is also a new section within The Cedars that is exclusively for tents, has no electricity but has access to modern restrooms. (I'm not sure what the numbers are for the sites there are ONLY 8) Possible negative would be that this is located right next to a larger playground. Sites are $16.00 I believe and are NOT on the online reservation system below.

Orchard Beach in Manistee is also right on Lake Michigan, but is high banked. This is also available on the website below.

Mears (in Pentwater) is located almost right on the lake and from what I've seen was all sand without much shade. http://www.michigandnr.com/parksandtrails/Details.aspx?id=470&type=SPRK

Hoffmaster State Park south of Muskegan has some good camping sites but there are also some near a creek that were wet (this was several years ago) http://www.michigandnr.com/parksandtrails/Details.aspx?id=457&type=SPRK

I hope you enjoy your trip. The State of Michigan website below also provide some additional camping locations.

90's Reggae Song From Reggae-Dance CD Advertisement?

Q. You know how when a CD is being advertised on TV, they show you some music videos of the songs? Well there is this one reggae-dance type CD that was being advertised, and the song I'm looking for came out on it. The music video has a black man with glasses I think (I'm not racist) on a beach with a bunch of girls and flags around. I think there was tents too. The back-beat sounds very similar to "Uh-Oh" by Lumidee and "Get Busy" by Sean Paul. It's a 90's song..I think...or at least early 90's or late 80's. Thank you so much for your help you guys. Have a great day.

What should i get my bf's little sister for her birthday?

lindsaynoe

My boyfriend's little sister is turning 5 and I'm not sure what to get her, any ideas? There's just so many options I am not sure what to get... whats like the new "popular" little kid toy? anything helps! thanks:)
she loves playing outside in her little pool and on this little slip-and-slide

Answer
Well, what does she like?

A lot of kids now enjoy computer or video games, so that is sure to be a hit, but I think you should get her something more active, especially since it's summer. I don't know what your budget is, but you could try a scooter, or an outdoor water toy. You could even get her a little tent for camping out.

EDIT: How about a big beach pail filled with fun beach toys, like a beach ball (deflated), sunglasses, a water squirter, shovel, and sand mold?
