beach tents kids image

We are taking our Daughter to the beach for the 1ST TIME! We are SUPER excited, yet super nervous! She will be 17 months old and she is just everywhere! She never sits still, and she can pitch some tantrums! LOL...She has never been this far away from home (12 hrs) and we are just really nervous! Can you please give me some tips on how to make the trip and the drive easier? Thanks!
Answer
Car DVD player and several of her favorite movies or cartoon DVD's
Take plenty of healthy snacks and drinks for her.
Take beach toys- a pail and shovel, some sand toy molds to make shapes with. Pack a few surprise toys for her during the trip in the car. Check dollar stores for simple little things like a small stuffed animal or something she can play with in the car that won't make a mess. Pull them out every so often and let her have one to keep her entertained and happy on the trip.
Schedule breaks at regular intervals for the potty and just to stretch legs, get a snack etc.. You'd be amazed how pulling off the road for 10 minutes will revive you and keep kids happier in the car!
Lots of sunscreen and one of those little canopy tents to sit in for her or a big umbrella you can all fit under on the beach to protect from the sun.
Another thing with beaches- and I'm assuming it is an ocean beach- be careful about the water. Strong under tows can come in fast and be undetected even from a short wade into the water on the shore. If a little one gets caught by one they can be pulled out far into the water and drown. Be sure someone is holding her hand tight if down by the water and don't let her out of easy grasp for a second.

Where should I go camping on the beach in California?
Katie
So my friends and I are planning a trip to Cali and want to camp on the beach instead of spend money on a hotel. We are in our mid 20's with no kids. Everywhere I've found online has been very family friendly and as much as I like kids, I would rather not have a family with 3 kids in the tent text to us. Not to mention families probably wouldn't want to be right next to us either. Any idea's on good places?
Answer
Well california is all about RVs when it comes to camping at the beach and all beach campgrounds from San Francisco south require reservations 6 months to a year in advance. Also expect to spend for reservations equal to a motel 6 elsewhere. For example the brand new Ca. state park campground at Crystle cove is $85 a night. With that in mind as another posted I recomend also that the beach be a day activity and look to county, state and national forest parks that are inland. Your question also leads one to assume that you think camping at the beach is free, so to make myself clear, in California it is not free and it is highly regulated.
http://woodalls.com/ lists all the campgrounds there are and you can go to the state of californias state parks page, http://www.parks.ca.gov/ and find sites there. Make reservations pronto as summer booking is going on now.
