we're planning a vacation for july and I already have a 2 1/2 page list of things I need to take for my son. any creative suggestions of things I might not have thought of? thanks so much!
Answer
Look for an umbrella/tent type thing that blocks the sun. We have one that you can use as an umbrella or drop the sides down and it is more like a cabana with a door. The sides have pockets that you fill with sand so the "walls" don't blow.
if you are going to be spending a lot of time at the beach you are going to need something like this so the baby can get out of the sun.
Also talk to your pediatrician about SUNGLASSES/eye protection. Too many people sunscreen their kids like crazy and forget that their eyes can get strained from bright sun reflecting off the sand and water. A hat with a brim--like a baseball cap--is another good thing for your baby to get used to wearing when outside in the sun.
I live a couple of miles from the beach and these are things I found invaluable with my kids. The tent thing alone was worth its weight in gold because a kid could nap under it with me while dad and the other kids ran in the surf.
Have fun!

You can take a hat, sunglasses & sunblock for baby. They have tents specifically made for this reason. Here are a couple links. Most of the tents have UV protection and some you can use with a pack & play, if you want to cart it to the beach. Otherwise you just set it up, zip it up & let baby play with some toys inside! Even better, I have seen other ones that come with a fan inside!
