Essentials for taking baby to the beach?

edm627

My son is 3 months old, will be 4 months by the time we take him to the beach, What are the essentials that we need (besides sunblock :)? A tent? A baby pool? Insect netting??

Answer
I would bring the following in this order:

Baby sunblock- you can now buy organic baby sunblock, but I don't know if you can use it on a 4 month old. As your pediatrician. Otherwise, dress him in light white cotton onzie and keep him in the shade - you could make sure your unbrella is a "sun unbrella" and treated to prevent UV rays etc. . .

A bottle of fresh water and a clean dry washcloth in a zip lock baggie. This will be important if he gets any sand in his eyes accidentally and you need to rinse his eye out. Mine were grabbing at everything including the sand at that age.

Enough food/water/bottles

Diapers/wet wipes- they sell disposable swim diapers that might be nice too- if you plan on going in the water with him, although he probably can just wear nothing in the swim trunks.

A plastic garbage bag for dirty diapers.

A hat to shade from the sun (if he'll keep it on)- babies have sensitive eyes- especially if they are blue still.

A sheet/ or "neat sheet" to lay on.

A sun unbrella or tent for the family- I suggest you dig a little cove/hole for him to lay in and cover it with a towel. You could even wet it a little. I found that to be very cool and comfy for mine when we took our boys at that age.

Maybe a spritzer bottle with a fan if he likes it and it's going to be hot.

If you are going to the beach and it's not in the mangroves or everglades etc. . . I do'nt think you'll need insect netting- I guess it depends on the beach.

Baby powder- this really helps to get the dry sand off the skin easily I've found.

Towels

A Camera (in a protected plastic bag)- to record those precious moments- if you aren't going to leave your bag on the beach

Extras: a little bucket to put some water or toys in for him to splash in.

The baby pool is a bit awkward and he'll be a bit young for it I think. . .but maybe a little blow up duckie bathtub would be nice- I like those because they are softer and easier to store.

I was wondering if it is ok to take a 12 week old baby to the beach?

My son will be 12 weeks old and i have the opportunity to take my children, one of which is 12 weeks old to the beach. We will be there for one week, private beach, air conditioned condo. I have a UV tent and a few umbrellas. I am worried about the heat and the sand. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Answer
of course or there will not be any people staying at coastal houses and fishing villages.

Just be wary of too much sun and be careful of hygenie & cleaniness.
