Also, since you are in Richmondtown you should be safe, it is the people who live near the beach like I do that have to evacuate. If you live below Hylan Blvd, then figure you should go to a safe place. If your home regularly floods in heavy rains, then maybe you might want to go, too.

what is there to do on shelter island, long island, ny?

I would be taking the ferry..what is there to do there? I hear you can look at houses and that there is a museum and lots of restuarants. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

There is basicly not much to do there. If you are staying the night i would check out the bar at Sunset Beach, it is the only large bar and scene on Shelter Island. There are a few art gallery's and a small musem or two. Othe rtahn that you can rent a bike and go on a bike ride around the island or goto crescent beach which is across the street from the Sunset Beach Resort and hang in the beach, i think they have volley ball nets up too. The best reason to go to Shelter Island is Commander Cody's Ribs and fried chciken,. I have traveled the entire countyr and have not had ribs and fried chciken as good as he makes it . He is crazy and you may need to call ahead to make sure he is cooking but it is worth the 2+hr trip from NYC. there is no good shopping and only 1 or 2 other restaraunts worth going to(vVne St., French very good) hope that helps.

I cant remember the name of this movie! Please help me! It's very old. About a snooty woman stuck in an island with this man and his dog. The island seemed to be abandoned because i remember there being empty houses and left over food. They weren't getting along till at some point, the man helped her make a boat or something and she rode it alone, but the weather just brought her back and got her sick, he took care of her and they fell inlove. PLEASE HELP ME FIND THE TITLE!

it kinda sounds a bit like the movie "three" with Billy Zane and Kelly Brooke the plot goes like this

The film revolves around Jack (Zane) and Jennifer (Brook), a rich couple who are yachting in the South Pacific. One of their crew is the handsome Manuel (Di Pace), who is cursed by an angry ex-girlfriend as he prepares to leave on the yacht. He is clearly bothered and has a difficult time getting along with the crew and guests. The captain fires him because of this, and Manuel throws down a rag as he marches out of the galley. The rag lands on a gas flame and causes the entire yacht to catch fire. The captain is unable to control the blaze with a fire extinguisher so they abandon ship. Their lifeboats are capsized by a storm, and everyone becomes separated.

Washing up on a deserted island, Jennifer is utterly alone until she sees the body of the captain in the water. As she attempts to resuscitate him, Manuel appears and also unsuccessfully tries to revive the man. They bury the captain and, under Manuel's guidance, set out to build a shelter and find food. Eventually, Jack also turns up the island. He suspects Manuel of having designs on his wife and declares the man his enemy, promising to ruin his life once they get off the island. Manuel responds that Jack had better get home soon, because he can ruin Jack's life right there on the island. This puts Jennifer in the uncomfortable position of her loyalty to Jack conflicting with the realization that they both need Manuel's help to survive. A proud man, Jack insists that he can provide for them both, but it quickly becomes apparent that this is not the case.

Jack steals Manuel's goggles to go fishing one day, and when Manuel discovers this, he threatens to kill Jack. Jennifer begs him to calm down, and in a fit of passion, they have sex on the beach. Jennifer resists at first, but eventually gives in. Manuel reveals that he has loved Jennifer from the moment he first saw her, but it is also clear that this is a way for him to hurt Jack. When he returns, Jack quickly realizes what has happened and rejects Jennifer, throwing her out of his hut to live with Manuel.

While fishing another day, Jack finds a boat on the ocean floor. He drags it to shore and attempts to repair it, declaring that he will not allow the others to escape with him in it. Jennifer gives Manuel the idea of stealing the boat, and they do so while Jack is out fishing. They do not get far before the boat begins to sink, and they realize that Jack's plan all along was for them to take the boat and drown. They are forced to swim back to the island and to Jack, who attacks the now-exhausted Manuel with a spear. An intense fight sequence ensues, interwoven with scenes of Manuel's ex-girlfriend performing a voodoo ceremony. The scene climaxes when Jennifer pins Jack to the ground, attempting to kill him with his own knife. Manuel, with Jack's spear stuck in his back, picks up a heavy rock with which to crush Jack. He loses his balance and falls backward, impaling himself on the spear. Simultaneously, voodoo girl impales his effigy on a spike.

Although it may not be as this movie was only made in 2006 but it does sound similar hope this helped =)

How can i get Linens at a vacation house without taking up space?

Every year myself and my family take a trip to our beach house, about a 3 hour car drive. The luggage is about 50% linens (blankets sheets etc). Is there a way to pack more efficiently, or are there any linen rental places in Rhode Island that we can use to cut down on luggage?

Check out the bags that you hook up to a vacuum and suck the air out of them. That will compress the blankets and linens; of sleeping bag duffule bags you push the blankets in and then pull the cord tight - they will take up a lot less space, Or try sleeping bags - down bags are small and come with bags that you can fit the bags in, You can get bags that zip together.
Another option is take you old sheets and blankets and donatoed them on the day you leave at an animal shelter, or other shelter.

I am thinking of emigrating to New Zealand for many reasons such as how damn beautiful the place is, but I have fount out that New Zealand has the same giant centipede as Australia. I thought New Zealand had no venomous animals? That's the impression you always get when the place is on travel shows.

New Zealand has no harmful animals like poisonous snakes, scorpions or venomous insects, so its sole poisonous native spider â the rare katipÅ â has almost mythical status. Since the late 19th century there have been accidental introductions of the poisonous redback and white-tailed spiders from Australia.

KatipÅ

MÄori knew of a poisonous spider that lived on or near some of the warmer North Island beaches. They called it the katipÅ, which means ânight-stingerâ. The scientific name is Latrodectus katipo.
Only the adult female katipÅ bites. A fully-grown female is about the size of a garden pea. It is black, with a bright red stripe on its back.
KatipÅ are naturally shy, and would probably only bite if accidentally squashed. Few New Zealanders have ever seen one, let alone been bitten. Despite their reputation, there is no solid evidence that anyone has died from a katipÅ bite in the last 100 years.
A closely related spider, the so-called black katipÅ (Latrodectus atritus), lives in sand dunes further back from the beach, in the northern North Island. Lacking the red stripe, it is a similar but distinct species that is not poisonous.

KatipŠspiders are now classified as a threatened species. It is illegal to collect or deliberately kill them. The decline is probably because of changes in the beach habitat, especially the replacement of native pīngao with marram grass.


Redback spider
In recent years small numbers of the Australian redback spider (Latrodectus hasselti) have been recorded in different parts of New Zealand. Because it prefers dry sheltered places, it is often found in outbuildings. There appear to be only small, localised populations, and because the climate is cooler and damper than that of Australia, it is unlikely to increase greatly.

White-tailed spider
Two species of the Australian white-tailed spider, Lampona cyclindrata and Lampona murina, have been recorded in New Zealand, and appear to have been present for at least 100 years. Both live in cracks and crevices, sometimes on the outside of houses.

The bite of the white-tailed spider is not poisonous to humans. There has been considerable publicity about serious skin infections, called necrotic lesions, that may develop near bites. In a recent Australian study of 130 confirmed white-tailed spider bites, 75% of people said the bite was less painful than a bee sting, and nobody developed lesions.
