what do i need when taking my just-turned 3 year old to the beach?

Sarah

i was wondering what i'll need to take my little girl to the beach?

Answer
sure its fine! i took my 12 month old daughter last month, your daughter will love it!

essentials:
*50+ spf suncream (also try to get the sand + water resistant suncream)
*a nice cap/hat
*you need shade, so bring a beach tent or bring a beach umbrella
*water or juice or w.e to keep her hydrated
*also bring a towel or mat to sit on, your child may not like the sand and sometimes the sand is really hot and burns my feet so bring some sandals for her aswell

extras:
*swimming costume and armbands for swimming in the sea
*small beach ball, bucket and spade etc something to keep her occupied
*when i went i also brought a cooler as i wanted her drinks and lunch to be nice and cold and fresh, i recommend you bring one
*and don't forget to buy her a ice cream =D i brought my daughter one at the beach and more went on her face than in her tummy!

NOTE: keep a eye on her at ALL times, if your sunbathing and closing your eyes you need another person watching her, beaches is one of the most popular places where children go missing and get taken, you can't trust many people now days

Ever taken a newborn to the beach?

Juka

I am going to Florida Sunday. I will be there 3 nights and 4 days. I have a 2 1/2 month old as well as other children. I bought a beach tent with spf 50 and earth's best organic all natural chemical free sunscreen for him. Has anyone done this? What was your experience?
I understand people saying "too hot" or "sandy."

So I'm wondering, people who live near the beach, do they move inland when they have newborn's?

It's hot where I live... just as hot as Florida, I live in Georgia.
note: baby is healthy.... and i won't be on beach b/w hours of 11am and 4pm

Answer
JUST TAKE AN UMBRELLA AND HAT, AND LIKE YOU SAID... MAKE SURE BABY IS NOT TOO HOT. YOU MIGHT WANT TO AVOID PUTTING SUNBLOCK ON BABY THOUGH...EVEN IF IT'S ORGANIC, IT MAY BE TOO HARSH FOR NEW SKIN. I'VE DONE IT, NO PROBLEM. YOU ARE RIGHT...JUST THINK OF ALL THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE BABIES IN DESSERT AREAS, THEY DON'T MOVE TO THE TROPICS JUST BECAUSE THEY HAVE A BABY! JUST BE CAREFUL, AS IT SOUNDS YOU ARE.

is it ok to take my 4 month old to the beach?

snowbunny

hey,my son is by then 4 month old(2 month preemie)
we would like to go to the beach for a few days in july, so i was wondering if that was ok to do??
i was gonna buy a big sun-umbrella and one of them little tents that are like SPF 50...
what else can i do to keep him protected???
and do i need to worry about the sand getting in his face or eyes???

thank u very much :)

Answer
We vacationed to Myrtle Beach, SC when my daughter was just 3 months old! I bought her a UV protective swimsuit with watersocks and a good pair of sunglasses. We used a big SPF 50 sun tent that she napped in no problem! We had a great time and so did she, don't be afraid to dip him in the water and let him explore the sand, we have such great memories and so many cute pics! I have a really sweet one of my daughter lying on a boogie board with a tiny wave coming in! HAVE FUN!!! Just keep him cool and covered, I just read some people say sunscreen, Do Not put suncreen on him yet, they should be at least 6 months or ask your Dr!

when you go to the beach with your toddler...do you bring a pop up tent for them to sleep in or just put them under a beach umbrella on a towel? I am trying to find the easiet way for my 2 yr old son as i go to the beach often with him alone

Answer
We use an SPF-50 pop-up tent and it is a life-saver. It folds down compactly and fits in our beach bag but is still big enough for our 2 children and one adult to fit in. If it is nap-time, I lay a towel or blanket in the tent and zip the mesh door shut. Sometimes I lay a towel or blanket over top of the tent for added darkness and privacy. I think my kids sleep better if they don't have as much stimulation. What child would want to nap when they can see other kids running around having fun?! :)
Oh, and I also agree with investing in a pull-behind carry-all. They are so helpful, especially when you take the child(ren) by yourself.

Must-haves for the beach with 9 month old?

Tennessee

My baby will be 9 months old when we visit the beach (Florida) in a couple of weeks. Me and my husband are used to the beach since we go once a year but my little boy's never been. What are some must-haves that I'm not thinking of? I've thought about getting a little tent but what else besides diapers, food, and the everyday stuff? It's an 8 hour drive and we're luckily staying in a townhome right on the beach so we'll atleast be within a few feet of our back door.
Oh yeah, and he's not even close to crawling. Just incase that added any details.
Where do you find spf100? The highest I've found is spf 70.

Answer
I bring my 14 month old to the beach at least once a week, so I have this whole thing down packed lol...

~Sunscreen - You do not need anything higher than an 50SPF, not sure if you have ever read into sunscreen but the rating has nothing to do with the protection. I use Banana Boat Kids SPF 50, I apply it every 45 mins - 1hr.
~Sun Hat
~Sand toys
~Swim diapers
~Change of clothes
~Swim shorts
~Swimming shirt (if you want the extra protection)
~Floatie for the water - They make type just for babies, they have little leg holes in them just like a jumperoo, very inexpensive, around $10.
~Baby powder - Not sure if you have heard of the most amazing baby/sand trick ever but....right before leaving the beach, dry baby off and cover their sandy areas with baby powder, wipe the powder off and the sand comes with it!!
~Snacks
~Formula/Breastmilk
~Water

Have fun!
