How do you get a tent/booth set up at the air show at Jones Beach? 10 points?

Q. Just what it asks above! How much does it cost etc? Thank you for your help!

Answer
There are many people that havenât been camping before, and setting up a tent can be a daunting process.
Place the four corners (depending on your tent) down and spread them out so that the base part of the tent is on the ground.
Snap together your poles and ensure that you know which poles are for each section of your tent.
Pull the outer tent over the inner tent and clip the outer tent to the tent poles. Then pull out the outer tent and peg out as far as possible to ensure there is distance between the inner and outer tent, to ensure a that any water doesnât make your inner wet.
Make sure once you have set up your tent and place all your items inside that you zip up all entrance and exit points so that no insects get in to make for a relaxed mozzie free night. And you have done it

Where to get a decent cheap tent?

Jake

I've just been away camping in my 2 man tent, it did the trick -just about! It was a very cheap one as it was a last minute thing to go to a festival, anyway, one night it rained a lot and every time the wind blew the tent a little water started dripping in! So i've decided its time to upgrade!

I'm looking for a 2 or 3 man tent with a small entrance area so i can keep my muddy boots out of the sleeping area and ideally i would like a double skinned one to keep condensation down to a minimum, I have something like this in mind - http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_786605_langId_-1_categoryId_236903

I don't want to spend more than about £30 so if you see anything that ticks all of my boxes then please let me know! Suggestions of places to look would be good too. I am also living in the UK!

Many thanks for any contributions :)

It's a bit tricky recommending camping equipment when I live in a different country. Virtually all of the budget stuff is now made in a number of factories in China. The same factory may well make 10 different brands of tents. Next season another factory will get the contract to make them - sometimes the quality drops (ie low price bidder)
Really the only way is to look at them yourself & try to get a feel for what's available. You're looking at a price that is right at the bottom of the market, but sometimes surprisingly good stuff comes up at that sort of price.
A generally good product here (in Oz) is DMH but they've just changed hands & I notice their alloy poles are now a lot softer & easier to bend ie not as good as they were.
What sort of tent to get depends on the use you'll be putting it to. Sounds obvious but there's a huge difference between using it for hikng in the hills in winter regularly & an occasion beach camp in summer. So decide what you want it for then go looking.
Things to look out for
1/ is it big enough for the job?
2/ is the quality of the stitching good?
3/ What sort of poles does it have? Alloy is lighter, f/glass is cheaper
4/ does the fly cover the whole tent?
5/ what sort of zips does it have?
6/ Can it be opened up for ventilation, closed up for warmth?
7/ how heavy is it?
8/ how easy to erect?
9/ how well will it stand up in a wind? (Cross pole dome tents are not good in strong winds)
10/can I open up the fly without letting water in if it's raining? Some tents seem to funnel water in when unzipped.
11/ what size is the vestibule/s
12/can I afford a better tent or do I stay home in bad weather?

Answer
Can I just ask why you'd go to the beach and put up a tent? Seems like that kinda defeats the purpose of why you go to the beach.

Taking our dog camping for the first time. Any advice?

We're taking our Jack Russell Terrier tent camping for the first time. We'll be in the Adirondacks. Any suggestions?

Answer
it is soooooo much fun camping with your dog, we take ours all the time.

Things to remember are

1. Drinking water, even if the camp site has this avail we do bring water from our own taps for the dog to prevent tummy upset.

2. We carry a mini puppy first aid kit with us when we are camping, just incase something happens that causes discomfort (ticks, insect bite, vegitation irritation etc)

3. a week before we leave we apply frontline plus to help prevent ticks, and carry and extra dose of this for reapplication if needed.

4. alot of camping grounds that are happy to have dogs on premisis still request that dog is on lead at all times, this can be hard to do 24 hours a day so we also carry a long line and pegs that we can stake in a shady area.

5. We also take an elevated bed for Kato so he can rest out of reach of the creepie crawlies that may be on the ground.

7. We have him sleep in the tent with us so there is no chance of him trying to hunt down the native nocturnals (dont want to get him in trouble)

8. Have all your dogs brushes or combs at hand so you can brush out any vegitation, sand or dirt that gets stuck in fur and skin which can cause discomfort and irritation.

9. Our boy is a long coated dog, and feels the heat. We also carry for him cooling vests that can be dampened in a near by creek or the ocean to help keep him comfortable.

10. At the end of the day, throuroghly check your dogs fur and skin to make sure that there is nothing there to cause any irritation.

11. Food stored in hard to access bags, you dont want the native wildlife ripping open your dogs food. (we use a canvas zip up bag for dry food, that is designed for camping with dogs) and take smaller once only meal tins of food so we dont have to try and keep half an open tin for the next meal

HAVE LOTS AND LOTS OF FUN, ENJOY HAVING YOUR DOG ON A HOLIDAY WITH YOU, IT IS THE GREATEST BONDING TIME FOR YOU ALL. AFTER ALL YOU DONT HAVE TO BE WORRRYING ABOUT THINGS TO DO AROUND THE HOUSE OR GOING TO WORK!

Edited to add puppy camping pics

good luck and enjoy. it is worth the effort.
