Am I the only one who loves thunder/rain and lightning?

I am a very lonely person and only the age of 19. I have bipolar depression for over 4 years and have to share a room with my 75 year old grandmother. Maybe some people have it worse.

Anyway, rain and thunder and snow and lightning cheer me up for some reason. I love it...its so cozy. Makes me want to cuddle up and listen to the rain.

Do you feel the same?

Answer
I love the sound of rain because it is so peaceful. Since it hardly ever rains here, I bought myself a cheap CD player with pretty good speakers and I have lots of "sound" CDs. . The sounds of thunderstorms, waves on a beach, water lapping against a boat, bubbling creek, sound of whales. . .I just buy them all and have found them at good prices at bargain places. I turn them on when I can't sleep or want to rest or just calm down. It's so hot here , I love to turn up the a/c, turn up the ceiling fan, and turn on the Thunderstorm one. It's as close as I can get. I also found a video for the TV and it is a "fire" tape and it looks like a fireplace and you have the sounds of the fire burning and popping and cracking. That is peaceful too.
Everyone is lonely and sometimes even in a crowd. It is part of life. Life is always better with friends to call in those moments or people you trust but you can't do that sometimes. That's when I try to relax and just appreciate the sound of myself breathing and I am glad to be alive. I have a house with lots of birds and critters outside and now have a lot of pets. Since I too live a pretty solitary life. . .and I have chosen it for the most part. . .I fill my solitude with my pets and nothing better than curling up with my Peggy Sue. She's a blue heeler and the only thing that has ever loved me unconditionally. Get a pet. Even a small one. They depend on you and love you and could care less about your problems. And if your folks can afford a dog or a cat and will let you have one, try to adopt one from a shelter. They so need someone to care for them, have been mistreated and will appreciate the love you have to give. If you can't adopt, maybe you can volunteer there and help them out. Helping others makes you feel a lot better about yourself and your problems. Good luck sweetie.

WHERE SHOULD I GO???????????

I am wanting to move to California in a couple years and I need some advice on places, money, rent...etc.

First, I am 34, single with no kids. Just me and my adorable rat terrier Wyatt that I got from a rescue shelter. I live in a small town about 1.5 hours south of St. Louis Missouri. It has a population of about 13,000. Small conservative bible fanatic town. I on the other hand am pretty much the complete opposite. I am a Humanist and I am a Liberal, so needless to say, I don't have many close friends here...lol I currently work at a billing company, we pay medicaid clms for about 12+ states. I currently make 13.00 an hour, which for this town, is pretty good pay.

There are way too many 'country boys' here with no college education and only want to drink beer on the weekends. It is VERY difficult to find a man to have an intelligent conversation with. The only thing to do in this town is a bowling alley, or bars, or go to Walmart. (not my idea of culture and entertainment)
I would love to move to California. My ideal place is a small town (by California standards..lol) of about 50,000-100,000 people. Not looking for a huge city but big enough to have stuff to do..i.e. museams, coffee shops, jazz clubs (or something like it) maybe a park or two to walk my dog and take a jog. Somewhere safe (since I am alone) to where I can go out during the day by myself and not be worried, or where I can go to the beach and not be scared being by myself.

I am in college right now, but wold be continuing my education over there if I do move. I am currently going for social work which may later turn into psychology or maybe even working at a non profit org.

I have lived in Missouri my whole life and am just wanting something different and more of what I am looking for as far as a community. I would like to start saving and maybe move out there in a couple years. How much do you think I would need to live in the areas I mention below? And how much would I need to make annually to be able to live in these cities/towns?

I would love to be close to the beach and in an area with very little rain and mild temps all year.
With all this being said...I have been looking into a few places to live. Can anyone who knows these areas and (now my life story) tell me if these are any good areas or not. I don't want to go from a small town to a HUGE city..I would love to just start at a semi small town with pop 50,000-100,000 (as stated earlier)

I have looked into Bakersfield, Thousand Oaks, Ventura county, Gilroy, San Clemente,

also in North Ca--Livermore

These are the basic ones I have found that seem to have what I am looking for, however, reading about the towns only takes you so far. I would love to hear from some people with first hand experience of any of these places. Or your oppionon on what town would be best for a person from the Midwest.
I know this is a lot of info, but I appreciate any input you have! I am new to this whole experience, it is something I have never done before but I am excited!

p.s. oh, and also a town with NICE people would also be great! :)

Thaanks so much in advance for reading my story and all your advice and suggestions!

I considered a job transfer to California but after working with a real estate broker, I found all the housing that I liked was far out of my reach. Even though the salaries are higher, the expenses such as housing and state taxes etc are even more so. I was originally looking to move close to LA but my favorite part by far is northern California. You need to take some time and travel out to the places that you are interested in and see how the area feels to you in person. All the pictures and videos dont make up for first hand experience.
I know you said that you are in Social Work and possibly Psychology. My advice is to get your MSW and get licensed. To do anything in psychology you will need a PhD (most colleges dont even offer a stand alone masters program). If you want to do clinical work, you can do as much if not more with a LCSW than you can do with a PhD in psych and most licensing is transferrable between states.
Check out the state colleges in Calif. and how long you have to be a resident to get the state resident tuition cost. As much as you would like to get away from your hometown (and I can see why), you might be best doing it after graduation and attending grad school in Calif on a scholarship if you can get it.
