hello world, im a 16 yr old student at a catholic high school in florida. spring break is coming up so that means every body will be flocking to the beach , New Smyrna Beach to be exact just a few minutes south of Daytona Beach . My buddy and i were wondering if we could pitch a tent on the beach ? i know it sounds dumb but we wanna try it. so can we pitch a tent on the beach?

it depends on the beach.
On some beach where i go with my cousin we do pitch a tent on the beach, but its a very unknown beach so there are no rules on it (yet).
And because it sounds like New Smyrna Beach is a very well know and popular beach, it probably has rules like a curfew time or policies that do/don't let you pitch a tent.

Personally, i would bring the tent and book a hotel room (if you don't want to drive home, because i don't know how far the beach is away from your house) and then when you get there make sure to find out the rule on tents/curfew. if there are, go to the hotel (or go home) and if there aren't, cancel the hotel room and camp out!

PS. because your 16, make sure to check the age if they let you stay in a tent on the beach. I was 15 and my cousin was 17 and we were allowed to pitch a tent on a well known becah about 2 hours from her house. BUT there was a age restriction of 18 or older so we had to go home. ther were no hotel rooms open so we ended up sleeping in the car.

Baby beach tents: Has anyone used one before and do you think it's a good investment?

Since summer time is coming around and my second child is due in June I was thinking of getting a baby beach tent or some other UV tent for the family when going to the beach. My husband thinks it's ridiculous to buy one but my son and I burn easily (and so does my husband even though he doesn't like to admit it).

Have you used a baby beach tent and do you think it's a good investment? Why or why not?

I got a really good one from onestepahead.com. It springs up on it's own and the front and back open wide so that it stays well ventilated and doesn't get so hot (you can close them too for napping kids or nursing). It's fairly roomy too. The whole thing folds down and packs into a little bag that is much easier to carry than an umbrella. I think it's a good investment, I use mine at the beach all the time. The kids get changed in it too so we can avoid the restrooms.

What do you need for a family beach outing?

I have to keep me, kids and dog entertained - Everything and anything to take to the beach will be a help!!! I already have a picnic, bucket and spade and one of those beach tents.

- sun-tan lotion so you don't get burnt
- toys (e.g. bucket, spades, ball) to keep the kids and dog entertained.
- swimming costumes/ inflatables etc.
- food to eat and lots of water
- towels/ blankets to sit on

Where is a good place to camp on the BEACH (tent in sand or near sand) between Santa Cruz ans SF? I also want a place that allows alcohol and bond fires or camp fires on the beach too.

There are legitimate campsites in and just south of Santa Cruz. New Brieghton Beach, and Sunset Beach that are both right next to the beach. You can drink at the camp sites and have fires at the camp site or on the beach. Alcohol is NOT allowed on any beach in SC County. However, if your cool and quiet, you're normally safe with some booze on the beach. Big groups, being noisey etc draw attention and the patrols. The tickets are $250 per container (do the math!)

There are some secluded beaches in the north county that people camp at, but I'm not sure of any that are legal camping areas. There may be some in San Mateo County. If you try to camp on the beach, be carefull! Many beaches are underwater at high tide and have no escape as the tide rolls in.

what age is okay for a baby to go to the beach?

I am planning a day trip to the beach sunday it is about 1 1/2 away from my house... I have a 3 year old son I want to take, and I also have a daughter who will be 7 weeks friday... Temps are susposed to be in the low 80's and I was gonna bring a baby beach tent... Is it too early for her to go? My mom will keep an eye on her but I feel guilty already for leaving her for a day... Thanks~!!!

No way, take her! Just keep her shaded and cool. I personally don't believe in sheltering babies. Have fun!
