I live with my mom and cat (male, if it makes a difference) in a little town on lake Huron called Kincardine. It's about 2 1/2 hours away from Toronto.
We live in a house with a teeny backyard, but our neighboor is away for most of the year, and he let's us use his. His backyard is about the size of a soccerfield. Neither yards have a fence.
I would be the dogs main owner, but of course my mom would help too. I would be able to give the dog a walk once a day (if they even need it...) and groom it once a week, but I, honesly, would probably forget sometimes.
My mom leaves at 7:00am for work and returns at 4:30pm Monday-Friday. I leave for school at 8:15am and come home at 3:45pm.
My mom often has musical parties with normally about 5 people other than ourselves. I have little cousins (aged 2-8) that like to come visit for a day, and they of course would love my pet(s). They know to be gentle, though. I also have my friends over on weekends.
I was thinking about getting a puppy in the summer, so I can be home and train it an getto know it. Unfortuneatley, I go away in the summer. I'm going to my Dad's cottage the first week of July, Overnight camp the first week of August, and day camp (9:00-3:30) the second week of August. My mom and i think that this won't be enough time, as my summer vacation only has 75 days and I would be gone for 21, plus time I would want to spend with my friends. i could take the puppy with me, but how would it do at the beach?

STEP 1: CHOOSING THE RIGHT DOG
Remember, some dog breeds are good for you, but not others. Some dog breeds are good for others, but not you. It all depends on your lifestyle and family. No dog breed is better than another. They are all equals! If people suggest dog breeds for you, donât listen to what they say because they donât know very much about you. All dogs are different and have many different types of needs (amount of exercise, training, food they need, energy level, size, etc.) that you may or may not be able to give to them! -Are you and everyone in your family healthy enough to handle a dog?
-Do you have the money to buy the dog food, toys, and medicine from the vet? It costs at least $800-$1,000 the first year of owning a dog!!!!!!!!
-Are you willing to give your dog daily exercise?
-Are you willing to train your dog?
If the answer is ânoâ to even ONE of these answers, you are NOT ready for a dog.

ADOPT! Shelter dogs are VERY inexpensive ($50-$200) and are just as good as any other dog from a breeder! They are in need of a loving home! Are you willing to give a dog a second chance that may not even be alive the next day because no one adopted them? There are millions of dogs that die each year that have no clue what they have done wrong. They die wondering, âWhat terrible thing did I do to my master that meant so much to me to make them leave me all alone to die here with no one to love me ever again?â

If for some reason you can not or do not want to adopt, please get a PUREBRED (NO TEACUPS OR DESIGNERS) from a good, reputable breeder! DO NOT EVER EVER get a pet from a pet store! Most pet stores buy animals from PUPPY MILLS!!! Do you know what a puppy mill is? Well, look it up and I am sure you will understand why you do not want to be giving them more money by buying a pup to âbreedâ more dogs!
