beach tents for babies target image
Katie
My husband and I are going to the beach on Sunday to visit some family members that are camping over ther. We will be gone for the entire day, and I am aprehensive about how my 3 month old will act. I am concerned about him getting the proper amount of naps, not getting to overwhelmed with things etc. We have gone camping ourselves with him when he was just a month, but he was is a controlled environment. I have no clue what to expect, or how to plan. Any help or advice would be great. Thanks in advanve.

Wind and sun protection. I brought my then three month old to the beach and he was miserable the whole time. I wasn't sure if it was the wind, sun, sand, heat, new environment etc. Now that I have a second baby I have found that she too gets upset if faced with too much wind in her face or if she gets too hot. They sell little cabana type tents that stake into the ground, I got one at Target last year for $15-20, which will help lessen the amount of wind and sun baby gets.
Loose, light clothing will help with sun protection and keeping baby cool.
Be sure to feed him a little more than usual as it'll probably be hot and your son will lose more fluids through sweat.
If there isn't enough shade, you can use sunscreen, sparingly. The AAP now says you can put it on the faces and hands of babies under six months if you NEED to, but it can hinder their perspiration mechanism so be careful with it.
Maybe your son will do really well with it, maybe not. If not, don't feel badly about saying to your family, OK, we've had enough and are calling it an early day. Have fun!
