Projects for the Community dealing with art?

My club and I (National Art Honor Society) would like to help out the community with visual arts. Do you have any suggestions on where we could begin? In the past, we've tried making cards to raise money for the poor, and making decorative cups for cancer, etc. What other ideas and organizations are out there that could relate to our skills of art?

Ie: are there any for iraqi soldiers, poverty, hospitals, or ngos in africa?

We're in the Ny, long island area that could potentially go out to the city area as well.

The Girl Scouts do an enormous amount of community contributions and it is not all financial. They work to make gardens, donate books, decorate bus benches, make quilts to donate to homeless shelters, adopt a highway, beach clean ups, make christmas decorations, the list goes on & on. If you go to their website you can see some of the projects that the girls have worked on. I would check also with children's hospitals they are always in need.

please guys help me, I want to bring my girlfriend somewhere that is going to really knock her socks off! I really cant afford to pay to much money, or travel out of Suffolk county, anyone know of a good place?

Sunset Beach in shelter island is nice and romantic, I also like Ruth's Chris steakhouse, that is if you can get out to Garden City. I know its not Suffolk but its not far and its really good.
