I live in a very small city. I dont need to lock my car, I dont need to lock my doors. There is rarely ever a moment I go into town to do anything, that I dont run into someone I know. I love the predictability and stability of where I live. I know bad things can happen anywhere, Im not that sheltered, but I do enjoy knowing that violent crimes (especially random violent crimes) are highly against the odds here in my community.
I do miss the city sometimes (I grew up in San Antonio, TX). I do miss the convenience, but amazon.com, and the internet in general, have made everything more accessible to those out in the rural midwest, like me.
I like that driving to the city (Port Clinton, Toledo, Indianapolis, Chicago) is kind of a mini vacation now for us. When we cant afford to get to the beach each year, we have so many other options to visit great places within driving distance.
I think there is a nice balance with myself and my family. I like where I am, but I would hate it if I couldnt get out and travel, so that I could at least feel like I was still a part of the rest of the world. It can seem isolating if you cant afford to get out of small areas on a normal basis. I definitely dont want to be one of those people. Im way to opinionated to live here without outside contact from people who will encourage me to make sense :). Thankfully I have some friends in bigger places that I know will keep me in check!!!!!
