I am looking for a calm, sweet, young, cute chocolate labrador retriever puppy near Huntington Beach, CA. I want to look at the puppy before I buy it so it would be great if it's at a shelter where I can see it. It has to be calm and cool being alone for a few hours. Can anyone help me find one?
Answer
Puppies, especially labs and goldens, are active when they are pups. If they are calm and listless, I would have them checked for worms! A puppy is a GREAT responsibility....It takes a lot of personal time to bond wtih the pup.
Go to a breeder and talk to them about the lab temperment....I think you will find that I am right.
You are on the right track....visit shelters that have puppies so you can get the feel for how active they are.
Maybe you should consider getting an older dog that is more settled. Everyone wants a puppy...but a special person gets an older dog. Just consider it!

What are some good psychiatric drugs for someone who has a low tolerance for stress?
ComfortZon
Like, someone who has led a very sheltered life because they wanted to avoid anything painful as much as possible. But painful experiences are unavoidable sometimes, and especially if one wants to achieve anything in life. I've been on meds for depression for over 10 years, but now I think that maybe I'm only depressed because I feel trapped by my low tolerance for stress. So would something other than an antidepressant be better for me?
Answer
Ativan and Clonazepam and Valium are anti-anxiety drugs but are also very addictive.
Some natural alternatives to stress are Valerian root, Passion flower, Chamomile tea, Pantothenic acid, Calcium, Magnesium and Vitamin B.
For depression and stress - aerobic exercise works wonders as it increases the natural feel good chemicals in your brain such as "Seritonin"
Meditation is also a great way to get out of stress and depression. When I am stressed, I meditate even briefly. I close my eyes, take a deep breath and focus on my breathing for a few minutes. I also visualize myself lying on a beautiful beach. You can rent or buy meditation C.D's.
You don't say how old you are. If you middle age, you could have a low thyroid problem or hormonal problems, both of which will affect your mood and your ability to handle stress. If you have low iron or B12 deficiency, this too can affect your energy and mood. I would suggest a thorough check up as well.
Hope this is helpful,
