beach tents for babies image

I have a Martin Backpacker and I'm worried that something might happen to it if I take it to the beach because of the humidity!
Answer
Humidity, in and of itself, is not a problem for guitars. Its the exposure to RAPID CHANGES in humidity, from bone-dry to sudden dampness or vice versa, that causes problems like frets rising or sinking causing fret buzzes, etc. If you leave your guitar in the case -- in the shade! -- for an hour or so after you arrive at the beach, it will have a chance to gradually get acclimated and will be fine. Whatever you do, do NOT leave it in the trunk of your car in the sun for any length of time, as the inside of a closed car trunk can rapidly go well over 120 degrees F in a short time, and that's hot enough to melt the glue holding your guitar together!
As a general rule, if the inside of a car, tent, whatever, is too hot to be safe to leave a dog, or a baby, its not safe for your instrument either.

How long is too long in the sun for six month old?
Megan R
We are taking our six month old to the beach next week and I have baby sunblock, a hat and a baby tent with SPF 35 to set up, but how long should we stay at the beach I don't want to expose him to the sun too long. Any other suggestions of things I may need to bring to make the trip more enjoyable for everyone.
Answer
I haven't used them, but Huggies has these little stickers to judge the amount of UV rays the baby is being exposed to. They change color as they absorb more UV rays.
Depending on the temperment of your baby, I would only stay a couple of hours, if that. There isn't a whole lot for a baby to do at the beach. They can play in the sand, make sure to watch for rubbing eyes with sand covered hands! Same with the salt water. My year old only lasts for a couple of hours.
