Answer
search petfinder with your zip code

There are many Huskies and other dogs available right in Long Beach, CA !

Compton Rescue
http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/CA616.html

Canine & Kitty Co-op
http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/CA698.html

Noahs Ark Animal Rescue
http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/CA964.html

BTW, any dog costs abut $300 in its first year, including shots, spay/neuter, microchipping. Consider an adult shelter dog. They come with all this done, and they are housetrained.

hi , we are looking to adopt a young dog in virginia beach. ive been looking on the internet but dont really understand. is there anywhere i can actually go see some dogs? and how does it work from there?
how likely is it to get one? do we have to go through alot to adopt? i know how much it is, i was just wondering if you have to apply then get your hopes up and then they choose someone else?

thanks for any advice and help

Answer
You will find most of the local dogs listed here>
http://www.petfinder.com/search/search.cgi?pet.Animal=Dog&pet.Breed=&pet.Age=&pet.Size=&pet.Sex=&location=23454
Each shelter or rescue sets their own policies and adoption fees, so just keep shopping until you find just the right dog for your lifestyle.
You can also enter your zip code on dogsindanger.com, and find many that are in animal control 'pounds', on death-row.
