beach shelter coleman image

My wife and I are camping on the beach at Galveston Island State Park this spring/summer. We currently have a Coleman dome tent, but it tends to really bend and flex in the wind. We're looking for something a little more sturdy. We usually keep most of our gear and stuff outside the tent under a gazebo shelter, so storage, gear lofts, vestibules, etc. are not that big of an issue. We want to make this a longer stay than normal. A more sturdy tent that doesn't cave in and use up all the interior space will make all the difference.
We'd like plenty of room if possible. My wife and I are both....uh...."full figured" so the person capacity needs to be a bit "negotiable.".

You will need to spend a little more to get a stronger tent. You can stay with a Coleman but at the price range several other tent makers are better priced for a rigid tent. I like the Coleman Heka x tent for a rigid tent design and yet still affordable, their next level tent the helios x3 is an expedition class with expedition price to go with it.
Getting away from Coleman to REI brands they have a strong Multi season called the Mountain 2 with high ratings that is cheaper in price then the Coleman Helios.
Anyway the key to having your tent hold up in the wind is having it set properly to the wind, the low end facing the predominate wind direction and having some kind of wind break. a picnic table, tree, your car, a large pile of drift wood, whatever you can find.
Good luck!

What is Novi, Michigan like?
iGuy
We're moving there in less than 2 months from Massachusetts and I just want to know it better. I'll be going to South Lyon East High and we'll be living in a subdivision 7 miles away from my school. What are some places to visit after we move? Local attractions, malls, or anything nice? What should my family expect? What is the crime rate and also people's attitude towards Filipinos/Asians? Thanks.
Answer
Suburban Detroit is boring as hell, thats really all there is to it. There isnt much crime at all in Novi, and i would imagine less in South Lyon. The closer you get to Detroit the worse it gets though. Its called the hollow core model. The car, and the freeway combined with racism, and Mayor coleman Young, pushed all of the whites to the suburbs during the 60's and 70's, and they gradually made more and more layers of suburbs. The inner ones (warren, hamtramick, inkster, River rouge etc.) are trashed too. Over the years some communities have become more integrated, and some not, but its not an Asian thing, its generally a black/white/latino/arab thing. For instance I grew up in the furthest south suburb, Trenton, and there was 3 black kids in my school, maybe 5 latinos, and a few dozen Asians and Arabs. It was a 90% white crackerbox.
You Should check out the Woodward dream cruise this summer for sure, maybe see a show at St. Andrews, the shelter, or Clutch Cargo. the Detroit Electronic Music Fest is coming up (aka DEMF) which is a blast if you like techno, or drugs. Tigers are cool, the Wings are better. Clearly the Lions dont matter. Metro Beach is a nice spot on a summer day. Ann Arbor is a lot of fun, so is Grand Rapids, and Lansing to a lesser extent. Head North though, and youll realize that the state is beautiful, basically all of it except detroit.
To be honest, most good things that happen in Michigan don't happen in Detroit, its kind of a depressing city. Take a drive to Del Rey sometime on the south side, youll know what I mean. Im moving back from lansing soon, and I'm depressed about it, but Im having a baby, and thats where my family is.
