What are some cheap (or free) things to do and places to see between LV and Reno, Reno and SF, SF and LA finally LA and LV?
I'm planning a motorcycle road trip by myself (because I don't have any friends lol) from Las Vegas, NV. to Reno, NV. to San Francisco, CA. to Los Angeles, CA. and back to Vegas. The trip will likely be on 6 May 2013 (Thursday) to 9 May 2013 (Sunday) or a week after. I'll leave Thursday evening and arrive back to Vegas by Sunday night.
The only road trip that I've ever gone by myself on a motorcycle was a 50-mile trip from Vegas to Searchlight, NV. at midnight and it was fun!
I'm mechanically inclined and I just perform necessarily services recently. I'll be also carrying a tent and about a gallon of gasoline in the saddlebags. I'm not planning to stay at motels, because I'm poor. I'm an athletic guy so I'll be safe in the jungles. Haha. My motorcycle is a 1988 Honda Shadow 600. She gets about 40MPG city and 50-60MPG highway with a 2.9 gallon tank. Iâll be refueling every 100 miles or so.
I will leave Vegas on Thursday afternoon/evening and arrive at Reno around midnight. I will stop for gas at: Indian Springs, Beatty, Tonopah, Hawthorne, Fallon, Fernley and Reno. There is a Walker Lake just after Hawthorne. I might stop there real quick, but itâll probably be too dark to see anything. Once I arrive in Reno or Carson City, Iâll probably set up my tent and camp. I donât mind sleeping anywhere.
I should be up by 8AM on Friday and continue my journey to San Francisco, CA., stopping Sacramento and small towns for gas. It should take me 5 hours max to arrive at SF. So itâll be afternoon at SF on Friday. What should I do there until Friday night that is cheap/free? Iâll camp somewhere near the state park.
Once I wake up on Saturday morning, Iâll be heading to LA via Pacific Coast Highway. I should arrive in LA by evening at latest and be pretty tired and just sleep. I donât mind sleeping on the street of LA also (haha), as long as my motorcycle is safe :)
When I wake up on Sunday morning, what should I do in LA or nearby? I think going to the beach(es) is an excellent idea. Iâll be taking my speedo also haha.
Iâll finally leave LA around 6PM and should arrive back at Vegas before midnight and go to work at 8:30AM on Monday :(
Well, what do you think? Any tips? What should I do? Places to see? Thx in advance. Sorry for a long post
Oh crap I meant June not May.
Answer
Having driven every single mile of that at one time or another I think that yours is an incredibly ambitious plan to be doing in a vehicle w/ four wheels and it may be damned near undo-able on a motorcycle simply because of the beating that your body will take mile in mile out
But you're going to do it anyway
So
Make sure that the gas stations that you need are open late at night
Since you won't have a full Moon be super careful about critters in the road , ppl passing you and ppl using your lane to pass other ppl
Unless you have a thing about Reno taking US 50 out of Fallon to Sacramento will save you some miles
Know it can get below freezing at this time of year in the area around Lake Tahoe and snow is not unheard of
Safe trip

Opinions regarding Vama Veche in Romania?
Helen
I was looking fo a more laid back summer vacation and Vama Veche seems like a cool place on the Black Sea coast in Romania.
Anyone visited? Is this article accurate http://www.zubitravel.com/2013/03/vama-veche-woodstock-vibe-in-romania.html ?
Answer
Vama Veche is today a more crowded place comparing to last... millenium. Many young people sleeping in tents (not a regular camping - with showers and... , so I am not sure you will like to swim in the sea), drinking beer, listening loud music - sometimes rock, but not only...
If you really want crowd, go to Vama Veche! Or to Mamaia, north to Constantza (Mamaia is a summer-paradise with night clubs, discos, parades...). You can find many hotels and restaurants either in Mamaia or in Constantza - the greatest Romanian harbour to the Black Sea. The beach in Mamaia is sensational (very thin sand), and the sea-water is not so deep - you can walk into the sea for a long distance.
If you want a quiet holiday with amazing landscape, go to the Danube Delta, that is really amazing (on UNESCO Heritage List).

In summer (July and August), you can go for bird-watching (pellicans included), fish, water-lilies..
You will take boat-rides on the water channel and you will enjoy the luxuriant vegetation!
There is even a floating hotel, but you can stay in a small fisherman's house, the peasants are very friendly and ready for guests! Also, in some villages (Mila 23), you will find so-called "pensiune", with bed-and breakfast or all inclusive.
If you need more infos, feel free to ask. I am a licensed guide!
