Answer
Doran Beach is your answer. It is in Sonoma county just a couple of miles from Bodega Bay. I think most of the people that camp here seem to have a dog or 2 or 3. They have separate tent camping from the RV's, but no hook-ups. You can camp on the ocean side or the bay side, your choice. In fact, I was there yesterday just for the day use. It's a great campground and great for the dogs too.

which ohio campgrounds are best?

A group or mid-20s friends are looking to go camping in Ohio. Based on your experiences, which ohio campgroud is best in terms of cleanliness and water quality. I dont want to go to a campground and find a nasty, brown pond that they call a clean, refreshing lake. Could also be indiana or kentucky. Personally my favorite was Dale Hollow in Tennessee but i dont know if i want to go that far again. Thanks!

Considering the heat wave in that part of the country last year's clean, refreshing lake may well be this year's brown pond. You don't mention a necessity for motorized watercraft, so I assume you are simply looking for water. You mention Kentucky and Tennessee so you are likely in Southern Ohio. For an outing where you are likely to find people of your age group, try Hueston Woods State Park in Butler Co., Ohio. We used to cut Christmas trees there when I was a lad and spend weekends on the beach in the summer. You can fish in small watercraft or just enjoy the lake. Plenty of hiking, biking and the like. Oxford, home of my alma mater, Miami University, is nearby. A little more rustic, but still in the same birch-maple forest area, is Versailles State Park in Ripley Co.,Indiana. They used to let you "free camp" but I am not sure they still allow that. Free camping meant you could go into the woods and throw a tent. Or a hammock between two trees. The covered bridge is a true bit of Americana as is the town of Versailles. It is the county seat with the county courthouse on the square. I was born in Ripley Co. on a tobacco farm and have spent many good times there. I left the area when I graduated from Miami U and have been in Northern California for many years.
