Im going away for a few days and for about 4 day im going to be roughing it. ill be horse back rideing and hiking and camping outdoors with no shower or bathroom. what are some ideas that will help me stay clean and good smelling. i already bought dry shampoo for my hair and deoderant. but i cant use body spray because of misquetoes and bugs. i need some ideas like baby whips for a sponge bath etc. i also need ideas on how to keep my face clean and clear. i use proactive but i cant use that with out water. so i need ideas for acne or face washes that can be used in the woods. and also something to put my garbage in when im done. any ideas will be helpful. thank you
PS. will award points.

Answer
I can;t imagine there will be NO source of water. Most camping areas have at least a pump and if you are horseback riding there has to be some kind of water available at that facility. Bring a plastic gallon jug of water from home that you can refill from a tap as you need it. Also bring from home (or buy if you have to) a large lightwieght plastic bowl, like the ones they sell for putting chips in at picnics (places like Walmart, Kmart, Target should have them in the outdoor furniture or kitchen departments.) Also a plastic gallon sized ice cream tub would work if you have one of these. This is your outdoor "sink". Also buy a box of the gallon sized zip-lock baggies -- these are for your trash and also to carry your cleaning supplies. Bring several washcloths and a large lightweight towel -- a cheapo beach towel is ideal. The thinner the better since it will dry faster. Bring a small bottle of liquid soap -- actually a travel sized baby shampoo works fine.

When you want to wash, find a tree or bush to hang your towel up for a screen, or do this on your knees inside the tent. Strip down (naked or to your underwear if you are feeling nervous). Fill the plastic bowl with water from the jug, wet a washcloth and put a couple of drops of the soap or baby shampoo on it, suds up the cloth and wash yourself all over, occasionally rinsing the washcloth in the bowl of water. Don't use lots of soap -- you need very little, it is the water that is dissolving the dirt and stink. When you are done, wrap up in the towel and dry off. Using baby powder (the unscented cornstarch type) afterwards will help you feel fresh. When you are all done, hang the towel and washcloth in the sun on a tent or bush.

A great item you can buy from camping stores is a Sunshower -- a black plastic sack with a shower nozzle attached. YOu fill it with a gallon or two of water, leave it in the sun and it heats up to 100 degrees F, as warm as a normal shower. Then you can hold it or hang it in a tree, release the nozzle clip and have a warm shower all over. I love mine.

Baby wipes or feminine hygeine wipes are good for daily small cleaning up. The alcohol type facial wipes are better for the face and hands because they are not oily.

I've lived for as much as two weeks camping or at archeology or geology field camps and kept clean this way.

how to i have a wedding and pay as i go, rather than work with a budget? lengthy, im sorry.?

Veronica (

i would like to start off by saying my fiance refuses to get married in the court house, so that option is out. We want to get married ASAP but we are a bit of financial stand still. we still live with his parents and we have a 7 month old, so $ is pretty tight. We can't really save much of any thing, so saving until we get enough will take years and years and YEARS lol. i am looking for a pay as you go type of thing. i have heard of people doing this but do not know any of them personally.

how can i cut corners but do so tastefully?
do you pay the pastor?
how can i get a cheap dress?
how can i take a cheap but nice honeymoon?(we would love to go to mexico but for cost/time ect purposes have decided to go to florida or california, maybe hawaii)
where are good honeymoon spots within the united states?
any other cost saving ideas?

i know its "tradition" or custom or what ever to ask the brides parents to pay a portion, but the thing is, i am an orphan. i lived with my brother and his family though and would consider them equal to my parents-my brother will be giving me away. and they do not have very much $.

we want to get married within a year if possible.
he feels that we should get married by a pastor in the eyes (and preferably the house) of the lord. i wouldn't mind getting married in the court house, but i don't necessarily prefer it . a close friend of mine is doing that then having a reception afterward.

Answer
In your case especially you should still have a budget, but have line item budgets over which you cannot spend for clothing, food, venue and pastor. Many times you can get a great deal if you are married in the church then have the reception in the church social hall. Chances are the church won't allow alcohol, but if you have a yummy punch, or a coffee bar with coffee brewing and different kinds of creamers, syrups, etc. to add, you might not miss it. Then you and your friends could go to a pub for the after-after reception if you really want to put back a few.

You could have a late morning wedding with brunch reception that would be elegant and low cost -- eggs and waffles cost next to nothing and can be presented very elegantly. Your guests will be relaxed. You can have a local singer-songwriter, jazz combo, or other fun, laid back musician provide entertainment. Put up an announcement at a local college for art students to come in and do charcoal drawings or caricatures during the reception.

Check Craigslist for brides selling their decor at a discount or freecycle for votives, silk flowers, etc. to decorate for the reception.

The pastor usually gets an honorarium -- the best man hands over an envelope with a check for $50 or $100 generally. It's kind of a part time second income for pastors to officiate at weddings.

Dress: if you have a small wedding, you don't need a huge dress. You can get an ivory or pastel colored formal on eBay, TheRoseDress.com, Sydney's Closet, or even Target that will look beautiful for the day and won't cost much.

Assuming someone will watch your baby while you are gone, you could have a fabulous honeymoon outside the usual tourist spots. If it's summer, you could stay in a beautiful Inn or hotel on a lakefront instead of the ocean -- still have the beach experience for far less. Go on Expedia.com or Hotels.com to find deals on a great hotel in a city not far from where you live, then visit the cultural attractions there, or just stick close to the hotel. ;-)

My husband and I camped at a beautiful beachfront park -- it's not for everyone but we had long walks on the beach and wonderful food roasted over the fire, and held each other in front of the fire until it died down to the coals each night as the stars came out over the water. If you're nature people it's really fun and costs only a few dollars a night. If you don't have a tent or camper you could stay in a cabin, also.
