Hey guys it's my first time visiting Hawaii and I don't know what kind of documentation I need to travel there. Thanks.

Answer
You will be all set with just your drivers license! Here is a post I created earlier that you might find some good nuggets of information in. Have a great trip!

I am a nature nut and Hawaii is a great place to enjoy our beautiful planet! I put this together earlier but wanted to share it with you because there are some things here that will help you out! Hawaii is definitely worth it! I just can't get enough of that place! I have been 6 times and I have found enough on Oahu to do that I haven't even ventured out to the other islands yet! Here are some things in Waikiki and around the island to do; Dukes is def cool and right on the beach, and if you want to dance you can head over to Scruples. If you like to drink then do it in your room cause it is way way to expensive at the clubs. I suggest going to one of the 50+ ABC stores and grabbing your alcohol there for much cheaper! There is a ton of eating places down on the strip but the real Hawaii is out of town. Take the bus or drive up to manoa valley and experience the rainforest and a natural waterfall! Take a trip to the north shore and go to Waimaia Valley and see some of the most spectacular fauna anywhere! If you adventurous hike along the ridges and see paradise from 4000 feet! I did that and loved every second of it..Ok well it was more like 8 hours of it but anyway..lol. This link will take you to a site with very detailed info on hiking trails http://www.hawaiitrails.org/ Diving and snorkeling are pretty awesome too! Hanuama bay is touristy and with good reason. You are guaranteed to see tons of fish and have a nice afternoon at a beautiful beach! Diving can be done just off shore and runs around 100 bucks for 2 tanks and you don't need to be experienced. Not far out of town you can jet ski or parasail. Wouldn't really bother with the jet skiing because they have too many rules in Hawaii but the parasailing is something you should at least try once. After that it gets kind of boring. In town the international market place is def cool and worth strolling through...a tip..go to all the kiosks and then go back and don't be afraid to barter..that's how it works there! On the weekend a really cool thing to do it go to aloha stadium for a huge flea market!!! I mean huge the tents go all around the stadium and everything you find for souvenirs in Waikiki you will find there for way I mean way cheaper!! Oh one last thing, you have to go to a Luau and the Paradise Cove Luau is the best. oh crap...just thought of something else that will help you out. Go to www.Entertaiment.com and buy the book for Hawaii and it will give you so many discount coupons it will pay for it self right away. I did and it worked great. I just found another site that has coupons that you can print off the web so check this one out too http://www.ecouponshawaii.com/. Don't forget that part..really do it and you won't be sorry. Many 2-1 coupons on dinners in the Entertainment Book. Waikiki is is really expensive so anytime you can save money itâs a good thing. I have been to Hawaii 6 times now and would love to live there. I hope you make it because you won't forget it! Aloha!

Makiki Heights drive - Tourists don't find this gem and it's amazing! MUST SEE. Check your map to get to Makiki Heights. Great views of the island

Restaurants: There are tons of restaurants in Waikiki. If you are young and like to drink then drink b/4 you go out! The Pacific Beach Hotel has drink specials all week long and there a good deal. There are Mai Tai specials all over but DIXIES has the screamin Mai TAi which comes in a 32 oz glass and is about 6 bucks!!! Good Eats there too! For cheaper eats go outside of town over towards the Kaneohe side. If you do want to eat in Waikiki then I would highly recommend that you go to www.entertainment.com and buy the book for Hawaii. This coupon book will save you a ton on the island! Seriously every time I go I get the book and use all the 2-1 deals in it! Check ebay for it too sometimes you can get it dirt cheap!

Hotels; Best hotel for the money is the Ocean Resort Hotel on the east end of the strip. Very close to the beach, decent rooms, service is good and you will pay under a 100 a night for most rooms and the parking is much cheaper than the other hotels. Most parking isnât included in the cost of your hotel and can be as high as 17$ per day to park. At the Ocean Resort they have limited parking but you can park across the street for 5$/day!

which hawaii island you recommend me to go for the first time? Any hotel you recommend?

What are some different types of erosion prevention?

I am doing a project for an earth and space course and need to compare at least 4 different types of erosion prevention. All I can think of is retaining walls.

Answer
Well you can add grass cover, and shelter belts of trees to prevent soil being blown away by the wind, salt tolerant scrubs etc to stabilize coastal dunes, reducing tilling of the soil especially on hilly land, along shores concrete blocks or large sand bags packed close together can reduce beach erosion. Slowing down water flow velocity in streams help reduce erosion as does good dense plant cover anywhere.

Why do English perenniel gardens do so well in drab weather?

travel6188

I have a north facing backyard. I live at the beach in Southern California. Can't figure out why the perenniel gardens in England are so beautiful but get so little sun and are invariably damp from the rain. I would love an English perenniel garden back yard, but most everything dies. Any thoughts?

Answer
Primarily due to the moist, cool weather we enjoy here in the UK.Suggestions for your north border,
1.Anemone hupehensis.Pink, red and white flowers, grow well in partial shade.
2.Astilbe (Spirea). The arendsii hybrids suit any moist position.
3.Dicentra spectabilis.Requires moisture at roots, shade from strong sunshine.
4.Helleborus.Christmas rose. For a sheltered position in partial shade.
5.Hosta.Useful for north borders.
6.Phlox.Likes rich soil and shade from strong sun.
7.Primula.In variety.Growing as Phlox.
8.Ranunculus.aconitifolius flor-pleno,for a moist shady border.
9.Solidago.golden rod.
Hydrangeas and hardy fuchsia are others which may suit.Good luck, send me some oranges, please!

"The Bolivar Peninsula may be where you want to go. There are over thirty miles of beach to camp on. You can drive on all of the beaches.

After the flashing light when you get off of the ferry(at Fisherman's Cove motel), go about a mile or so and you will find Rettilon Rd (nolitter backwards). Turn right. It takes you to the beach and a good area to camp.

One thing new is a County Beach Parking Permit. You can buy them at almost any store or real estate office on the Peninsula. It's only ten bucks. The sheriffs don't really enforce it unless you are creating trouble or they want to roust you. The permit is not needed for driving on the beach, just parking.

Campfires are allowed but not big bonfires. Don't camp in front of someone's beachhouse. It bugs them. Unless you really like to party, avoid the part of the beach in Crystal beach known as the "ZOO". Sheriffs work this area hard and there are a lot problems there. Remember, no glass containers and no beer after 2am."

Galveston Island State Park has tent camping, screened shelters, and RV-related camping.

I have between 4 to 6 Adults and 2 or 3 small children and 2 cars. (not sure yet). We would like running water, but no electricity is not a big deal. We will be using tents and want to avoid the big RV parks and the commercial places. No Pools, golfcourses, clubhouses, arcades etc. We want our children to experience the rustic NH wilderness while still being safe. If anyone has any recommendations or knows a good place to look please help me out ! Thanks.

Here is the website for Exeter Elms in Exeter, New Hampshire. I have stayed there in the past and it is a top notch operation, Great tent sites on the river, clean showers, and it is close to the beach, Portsmouth, and New England dragway. I was in Ash tenting area #4A . http://www.exeterelms.com/

Is there a car camping tent that is thick enough to stay warm in wind and cold weather?

Daniel

I want a tent that doesn't have paper thin walls that has windows you can look out of or have zipped up so that you can stay warm. weight isn't really important. I have a Coleman tent now which is great for beach camping but I took it to around 6,000 feet in Yosemite last summer and we ended up having to go stay in a motel the next night because we were so cold. I don't need a three pound backpacking tent. I know I could just get a really nice sleeping bag or something but I wish they had a tent that you could actually hang out in or fall asleep next to your significant other without being mummified. any advice?

Answer
Tents aren't made to insulate, they're really just meant to keep the rain and wind off. What you need is a warmer sleeping bag. They make ones that will keep you warm in a blizzard on top of a mountain, but don't get one of those because you will be way too hot.

http://www.rei.com/category/4500001_Sleeping+Bags
See on the left where it has categories and near the middle you can choose by temperature ratings? You probably want one in the zone of 15-29 or 30-39.

But if weight is no problem, like if you're car camping, you can just take a few extra blankets. :) A foam sleeping pad also helps, because it will insulate you from the cold ground.

What should the theme of my wedding be?

Taylor

Have the reception in a barn around October with pumpkins, cowboy boots and bonfires.
Have the wedding and reception in the Virgin Islands around September with bare feet, colorful flowers and the reception in a tent at night on the beach.

Answer
WOW... you are trying to pick between two really hot themes this year. I work at a wedding accessories store and the western wedding theme is by far our hottest selling theme line this year and last. We have a HUGE selection of western themed ideas here http://www.bridesvillage.com/weswedac.html. We have sent these western themed items all over the world, so that theme isnt just hot here in the States!
But if your like alot of brides and dont want to be with the norm... I would say the Beach Theme Weddings are beautiful but they are less common now. They were hot a couple years ago and do seem to be making a comeback already this year though. We have a smaller line of Beach Themed Wedding items here http://www.bridesvillage.com/beach-wedding.html.
Have you thought of Cinderella Theme thats pretty popular too.
Hope this helped.

Needsomead

please guys help me, I want to bring my girlfriend somewhere that is going to really knock her socks off! I really cant afford to pay to much money, or travel out of Suffolk county, anyone know of a good place?

Answer
Sunset Beach in shelter island is nice and romantic, I also like Ruth's Chris steakhouse, that is if you can get out to Garden City. I know its not Suffolk but its not far and its really good.

what is there to do on shelter island, long island, ny?

stargazeng

I would be taking the ferry..what is there to do there? I hear you can look at houses and that there is a museum and lots of restuarants. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Answer
There is basicly not much to do there. If you are staying the night i would check out the bar at Sunset Beach, it is the only large bar and scene on Shelter Island. There are a few art gallery's and a small musem or two. Othe rtahn that you can rent a bike and go on a bike ride around the island or goto crescent beach which is across the street from the Sunset Beach Resort and hang in the beach, i think they have volley ball nets up too. The best reason to go to Shelter Island is Commander Cody's Ribs and fried chciken,. I have traveled the entire countyr and have not had ribs and fried chciken as good as he makes it . He is crazy and you may need to call ahead to make sure he is cooking but it is worth the 2+hr trip from NYC. there is no good shopping and only 1 or 2 other restaraunts worth going to(vVne St., French very good) hope that helps.

A new baby, a toddler and two older children what to do?

baby beach tents target image

ladybugzpr

Now that it's summer vacation I'm having a hard time thinking of stuff to do with the older children that the two little ones can enjoy as well. I'll be by myself (husband working) most days with 4 kids ages 11, 10, 2 and 4 months. We can't just stay home all the time or we'll all go crazy. I have the two older kids going to camp a few times a week but on the days they're not at camp I need some ideas that would be enjoyable for us all. We live by the ocean but I'm fearful of having the toddler and the baby by myself at the beach, same thing with the pool.

Answer
- i know by me there's a county zoo that's donation based, zoo's are good for all ages.

- google your town, county or state recreation and parks department and see if they have anything interesting, you'll at least find a few places to have a picnic or throw a ball around.

- go buy a $10 water game (slip and slide is still a surprising hit)

- check out Pinterest, there are so many crafty ideas posted, including my favorite one - http://www.curbly.com/users/diy-maven/posts/11380-how-to-make-glow-stick-lanterns

- break out the old school! my kids and I LOVE playing my original NES - sometimes they prefer it over the Wii and get just as excited about it as i did when i was their age. i'm sure there's something from your past you loved doing that they would love just as much.

- water balloons work for about 15 minutes, however, clean up of broken water balloons all over your yard lasts at least 30. ;) chalk a target on your garage door or side of the house to make it more fun.

- your kids wont like it, but i'm sure there's SOMETHING that needs to be reorganized. IDK about you but with my older girls that's an all day project i end with a glass of wine, but I at least feel accomplished when i look at it the next day.

- i know you're fearful of going to the beach with the 2 little ones, but keep in mind you have 2 older ones (god sents) that are capable of helping you carry stuff or the second eye if you need to get lunch ready and stuff. make sure they get a special thank you for helping out. :)

- sleepovers, play dates, the availability for "traditional weekend plans" just opened up to "any day" plans. dont forget the tent making in the living room!

- speaking of tents, throw one in the back yard and let the older ones sleep out there for a night.

either way, you'll def be outdoors so grab yourself the port-a-crib and a bug net to go over it and let the little guy hang out. Good luck!!

Will award points. Going camping...need ideas for staying clean and good smelling.?

Im going away for a few days and for about 4 day im going to be roughing it. ill be horse back rideing and hiking and camping outdoors with no shower or bathroom. what are some ideas that will help me stay clean and good smelling. i already bought dry shampoo for my hair and deoderant. but i cant use body spray because of misquetoes and bugs. i need some ideas like baby whips for a sponge bath etc. i also need ideas on how to keep my face clean and clear. i use proactive but i cant use that with out water. so i need ideas for acne or face washes that can be used in the woods. and also something to put my garbage in when im done. any ideas will be helpful. thank you
PS. will award points.

Answer
I can;t imagine there will be NO source of water. Most camping areas have at least a pump and if you are horseback riding there has to be some kind of water available at that facility. Bring a plastic gallon jug of water from home that you can refill from a tap as you need it. Also bring from home (or buy if you have to) a large lightwieght plastic bowl, like the ones they sell for putting chips in at picnics (places like Walmart, Kmart, Target should have them in the outdoor furniture or kitchen departments.) Also a plastic gallon sized ice cream tub would work if you have one of these. This is your outdoor "sink". Also buy a box of the gallon sized zip-lock baggies -- these are for your trash and also to carry your cleaning supplies. Bring several washcloths and a large lightweight towel -- a cheapo beach towel is ideal. The thinner the better since it will dry faster. Bring a small bottle of liquid soap -- actually a travel sized baby shampoo works fine.

When you want to wash, find a tree or bush to hang your towel up for a screen, or do this on your knees inside the tent. Strip down (naked or to your underwear if you are feeling nervous). Fill the plastic bowl with water from the jug, wet a washcloth and put a couple of drops of the soap or baby shampoo on it, suds up the cloth and wash yourself all over, occasionally rinsing the washcloth in the bowl of water. Don't use lots of soap -- you need very little, it is the water that is dissolving the dirt and stink. When you are done, wrap up in the towel and dry off. Using baby powder (the unscented cornstarch type) afterwards will help you feel fresh. When you are all done, hang the towel and washcloth in the sun on a tent or bush.

A great item you can buy from camping stores is a Sunshower -- a black plastic sack with a shower nozzle attached. YOu fill it with a gallon or two of water, leave it in the sun and it heats up to 100 degrees F, as warm as a normal shower. Then you can hold it or hang it in a tree, release the nozzle clip and have a warm shower all over. I love mine.

Baby wipes or feminine hygeine wipes are good for daily small cleaning up. The alcohol type facial wipes are better for the face and hands because they are not oily.

I've lived for as much as two weeks camping or at archeology or geology field camps and kept clean this way.

How do you set up a volleyball net at a beach?

Sydney L

I am buying a volleyball net off craigslist for $20 dollars and im a little suspicious because they tend to be more expensive. I was wondering, if the beach/park already has poles set up, do you really just need the net? do you need other parts that I dont know about?

Thanks

Answer
Some, but few beaches will already have poles there for you to put a net on. If you're in a popular volleyball spot you might even find nets on the beach

Most comonly, you will need to provide a full net kit and put it up on the beach for the duration that you play and take it home at the end.

A "kit" will include:
Net (with top and bottom cables)
Two Poles
Method of attaching top and bottom of net to poles (eye hooks and carabiners are good)
Guy wires (4 or 6) - These are the ropes that attach to the tops of the poles and get a tent spike on the other end to stick in the ground. 2 or 3 per side. soft deep sand usually take 3 per side, or really long spikes.

Or you could buy a net. Park and Sun is a very popular net. They tend to be a little below a tournament grade protable net.

http://parksun.com/Sporting_Goods/Net_Systems/#

Edit: I wanted to note that in a portable net you don't bury the poles. They sit on top of the sand and magically stay upright. I usually put something under the poles so they don't sink into the sand and lower the net.

I have a net off of the above page. Not cheap.

Bryttany S

I am going into my second year of college, in the undecided major haha. But I have decided I want to go into exotic animal training. I'm not wanting to go 4 years though. Just a 2 year degree or whatever it is I need. I'm looking for information about exotic animal training in general and schools or programs to go into. Any info will help. Thank you!!:)

Answer
Hi :)

I am an exotic animal trainer, and I got my foot in the door right away. You know how? A program called EATM, or exotic animal training and management. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mI6wz6jg75M Here is a list of where graduates have gotten to work: Universal Studios (California, Florida, and Japan), Sea World (San Diego, Ohio, & Florida), San Diego Wild Animal Park, San Diego Zoo, Los Angeles Zoo, Brookfield Zoo (Chicago), Folsom Zoo (CA), Sacramento Zoo (CA), Chaffee Zoo (CA), Mystic Aquarium (CN), The Bronx Zoo (NY), State Fish and Wildlife Departments, American Humane Association, Guide Dogs for the Blind (San Rafael, California), Animal Actors of Hollywood, Studio Animal Services, Steve Martin's Working Wildlife, the United States Navy - as civilian contractors training marine mammals (Dolphins, Sea Lions, Beluga Whales), Dolphin Quest - a Dolphin interaction program - (Hawaii, Bermuda, & Tahiti), Woburn Safari Park (Great Britain), the Six Flags Amusement Parks (especially Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, Vallejo & Six Flags Magic Mountain, California,), Disney's Animal Kingdom (Florida), Siegfried & Roy (Las Vegas), the MGM Lion Habitat and other Las Vegas animal venues, Aquarium of the Pacific (Long Beach, California), Zoo-to-You (Paso Robles, CA), Wild Things (Auburn, California), Wild About Cats (Auburn, California), Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus, plus many, many other zoos, aquariums, and animal companies all over the world.

More on their website: http://www.moorparkcollege.edu/current_students/teaching_zoo/FAQs.shtml

In addition, you should get volunteer experience! Volunteer at a zoo, animal shelter etc. Also, work with large and possibly dangerous animals, such as horses, is very beneficial.

Good luck! :)

Does my essay meet the prompt requirements in a good way?...enough for an A?

fuzzy19

the prompt was

Describe how Lessing's imagery connects with Jerry's quest.

When one is young and yearning for adventure, it is apparent that they look up to the older crowd for inspiration on adding excitement to their lives. In this case, Lessing gives the impression that Jerry is motivated by the older boys swimming and having a fun time going through the tunnel together, along with the appearance of the more dangerous side of the beach. Jerry decides that he wants to accomplish the same feat and sets his mind to doing so. When he gloriously does, his success lets readers see the transition he has gone through from being a sheltered child to being more independent. His endeavor of independence is described through Lessingâs contrasts of imagery between the features of the safe position Jerry is used to and those of the unknown, dangerous one, these of which show the transition taking place through the quest, as well as symbolizing the obstacles and challenges Jerry has to face.
Jerry begins his mission by training himself to be able to breathe underwater for long periods of time. Challenges that further accentuate his heroic quest can be thought of as the trials he had when he was in training. His previous fears of some frightening aspects of the underwater world test his strengths of being able to withstand the uncertainties he has of going through the tunnel. When Lessingâs uses of imagery describe his experience of the moment that, âsomething soft and clammy touched his mouth; he saw a dark frond moving against the grayish rock, and panic filled him. He thought of octopuses of clinging weed.â (405) readers see that he isnât any more comforted. This picture sets a scene of feeling and seeing unpleasant things. Lessing created this through vivid imagery that portrays how Jerry was getting a small taste of what was to come ahead on his journey.
Another aspect of the story that shows how Jerry ventured off into an underworld of danger are the pains he had when actually going through the tunnel. âHis lungs were beginning to hurtâ¦the water was a clear jewel-green all around him. Then he saw above his head a crack running up through the rockâ¦He was at the end of what he could do. He looked up at the crack as if it were filled with air and not water, as if he could put his mouth to it and draw in air.â (406-407) The imagery used to portray his struggling shows how difficult of a challenge it was to endure, and thus leading to how heroic he is for such an endeavor. Contrasts of imagery can be seen through the fact that âit was like a water danceâ¦the water sparkled as if sequins were dropping through itâ¦he could feel the innumerable tiny touches of them. It was like swimming in flaked sliver.â (404) This along with the dissimilarity of â[drifting] to the surface, his face turned up to the air. He was gasping like a fish. He felt he would sink now and drown â¦he could see nothing but red-veined, clotted dark. His eyes must have burst, he thoughtâ¦â (407) show Jerryâs pain in his new position of going through more dangerous, frightening things in contrast to the beauty of the water and his innocence.
Jerryâs great efforts of persisting on with his quest result in a highly deserved accomplishment. His independence is shown through descriptions of going through the tunnel. However through Lessingâs imagery, going through the tunnel is not only portrayed as a physical quest, but more of a symbolic passageway into freedom and independence. With Lessingâs imagery connecting to Jerryâs quest in such a way that readers practically see the colorful journey through bodily senses enough to realize the intensity and struggling he went through when on his adventure. His rewarded ending is shown, along with all the imagery used, how heroic of a person he is for enduring all the difficulties throughout his expedition.
it is due on monday..so in about 2 days, whatever time it is over wherever you are

Answer
Hi,
I would rephrase this : His endeavor of independence is described through Lessingâs contrasts of imagery between the features of the safe position Jerry is used to and those of the unknown, dangerous one, these of which show the transition taking place through the quest, as well as symbolizing the obstacles and challenges Jerry has to face.

Jerry's endeavor of independence is described through Lessing's contrasts of imagery between Jerry's comfort zone and the unknown. Lessing shows these transitions taking place through the quest in addition symbolizing the obstacles and challenges Jerry has to face.

I think your essay is great. A few touches to fine tune it and it is definitely worth an A.

Where can I rent beach umbrellas for me wedding?

beach umbrella or tent
on Beach Tent With Sand Pockets | tentforbeach.net
beach umbrella or tent image

Nan Young

Im having a beach wedding and I thought it would be really cool to have my guests sit beneath large white beach umbrellas (two to one umbrella), however, I'm having difficulty finding a rental site (one that delivers would be awesome too.)

Answer
I think the beach umbrellas are a great idea ONLY if the sun and angle of the umbrella is precisely shading your guests. Otherwise this umbrella idea is going to be a total flop.

Why not rent a tent instead? If it is set up prior to the heat of the afternoon sun, the entire area under the umbrella could be a couple degrees cooler in the shade and you would not have to worry one bit about the umbrellas doing their job. Besides, two people to one umbrella means you will have to take up tons of space setting up two chairs at a time under each umbrella. What happens if someone comes alone? Will you have assigned seating on the beach?

The only way I could see seating for two under one umbrella per couple is if you are having a small intimate wedding. In which case, look in the yellow pages under "party rentals" in the area in which you intend to wed.

What would you pack for a weekend beach trip if you took a one year old?

Amy M

It's been a while since I packed for a beach trip, especially with a little one this little. While it's not the trip I want, I really don't want to miss anything I need and then have to either pay a higher price or not being able to find what I need for Brody.

Which language is commonly spoken in Australia?

beach tents perth

MNBZ

Well, this year I graduated with a Bachelors in Business with a major in Accounting from UCLA (University of California in Los Angeles). I worked extremely hard and, to reward myself, I'm going to visit a cool country - maybe checkout the wildlife of Africa or the natural beauty of Australia. I don't want to visit an Americanized country. To be honest, I'm quite tired of seeing malls, McDonalds and Katy Perry everywhere.

So I have made two choices: visit Africa (continent) or visit Australia. So, I'd like to know which language is commonly spoken in Australia to prepare myself for any uncertainties. Do you guys understand English? Also, what's the natural beauty like in Australia? I've heard quite a bit about the wildback (desert) and it would be amazing to camp there with the locals to experience a whole different world. Steve Irwin has showed some beautiful places in Australia and it's great to see that people there are living through the simplest means with as little as possible. I commend you Australians! *Sigh* I need a break from this materialistic country!
I don't understand the anger. I'm sorry, I just wanted to inquire about the language. Australia isn't resonated in the minds of Americans, that's why I asked.

Answer
Oh boy, Australia really must seem a long way away for you. So aside from half of Australia shaking their heads in disbelief at how green your question sounds, I will attempt to answer it in the spirit with which it was asked - pure innocence:

Most western countries in the world have cities with shopping malls and some Americanised stuff. You will find that sort of thing in Johannesburg just as you would in Sydney, Australia. But you can also find amazing wilderness areas and ancient beautiful landscapes in what us Australians call the outback. You have to travel beyond the cities to places on the edge of your comfort zone. I would suggest you join an outback camping tour, with tents and campfire meals included. This way you get to experience the simple life, while also backed up by experienced guides that can handle any emergency. The outback can be a dangerous place for the unwary. So don't head out there without taking someone along who is experienced in travelling in these regions.

I would suggest you visit Western Australia. Fly to Perth and then take tours or drive yourself up the west coast. Be sure to visit some of the following outback areas:

* the Pinnacles desert
* Shark Bay and Monkey Mia
* Ningaloo Reef
* Kata Tjuta NP - including, Red Gorge, Hancock Gorge, Tunnel Creek and Python Pool.
* Horizontal Falls
* the Bungle Bungles (Purnulu NP).
* the Gibb River road through the Kimberley region (off road vehicles only).
* any of the pristine beaches along the west coast - including Cape Keraudren, Kalbarri, Cable Beach and many others.

If you visit Queensland then be sure to check out:

* the Great Barrier reef
* the Daintree Rainforest (the world's oldest rainforest)
* Gulf of Carpentaria

A few things you need to know:

* Language - everyone in the country speaks English in some form or other. It is the national language. Australia follows many British spelling conventions. Although we do recognise and understand most Americanisms when we see them.
* Australia is a huge country. It is about the same size as the continental United States, with 1/10 of the population. Most of the people living here live within 100 miles of the beach. So when you head into the outback it really is an empty place. It is quite true that in the remotest areas neighbours can be more than 100 kms away from each other.
* Distances are huge. It is about 2500 miles (4000 kms) from the west coast to the east coast. You need to pick a region and concentrate on seeing what there is to see there. You will likely need to travel by jet aircraft between major cities, and even regional towns to get near to where you want to go. You are looking at around a 13 hour flight from west coast of America to east coast of Australia. Flights from Sydney to Perth are about 4 hours flying time.
* The Australian outback is a harsh and unforgiving place. You will need to be prepared for visiting it. I strongly suggest you choose an outback tour over trying to visit these places on your own. You don't want to put yourself in the position where people cannot find you. Australia is like a hot version of Canada. If you stray off the beaten track far enough, you can find yourself lost very easily.

In saying all this, Australia is an amazing place. It has wildlife found no where else on the planet. It has landscapes that will take your breath away. It is well worth the effort to find those untouched corners of this continent. They will be memories you will never forget. Have a great trip.

travelling australia?

hi everyone,
my names fiona, my partner and i are planning trip around australia. we are from melbourne and would love for people who have traveled aus to share there stories and there favorite places to visit as its extremely overwhelming when we look at a map or even try to decide where we would like to start!
also any info on a good 4x4 we should buy or any thing else you would love to add!
thanks heaps in advance :-)
thanks yeh been up to qld gold coast! my school did that same trip as well. im extremely keen to go to the gorges in NT!

Answer
You don't need a 4wd to go around Australia. The roads are sealed all the way around unless you plan to go 4wd tracks. They are expensive to run . You are better with a campervan or a small car and take a tent with you. There are some great places along the the QLD coast. Airlie beach being one of them I love the NT you want to be there between April and September the dry season. keep back from those rivers The crocs can come out real fast. It depends what time of year you set out which way you go. Down south and over to Perth if you leave in Summer so the weather is good for the tropics to start heading up there in April. Some will say the Nullabor is boring. Ive travelled the Nullabor about 8 times and every time something different i love then once over around the coast from Esperance through albany and Margaret river way is great do a few little diversions to the forest areas. But you will miss kalgoorlie out so if you wanted you could go to kalgoorlie then back track to Esperance. A bit out the way but to see the super pit is a mighty scene. Once north of WA the Broome is a must and the trip on the Fitroy river Geike gorge at Fitroy crossing is worth it for sure. Make sure you are in a roadside service such as RACV always carry plenty of water and insect repellent some cash incase eftpos machines are down. a torch shop in supermarkets. you will find plenty of other travellers in rest areas and one picks up tips and ideas from them.

We are taking our Daughter to the beach for the 1ST TIME! We are SUPER excited, yet super nervous! She will be 17 months old and she is just everywhere! She never sits still, and she can pitch some tantrums! LOL...She has never been this far away from home (12 hrs) and we are just really nervous! Can you please give me some tips on how to make the trip and the drive easier? Thanks!

Answer
Car DVD player and several of her favorite movies or cartoon DVD's

Take plenty of healthy snacks and drinks for her.

Take beach toys- a pail and shovel, some sand toy molds to make shapes with. Pack a few surprise toys for her during the trip in the car. Check dollar stores for simple little things like a small stuffed animal or something she can play with in the car that won't make a mess. Pull them out every so often and let her have one to keep her entertained and happy on the trip.

Schedule breaks at regular intervals for the potty and just to stretch legs, get a snack etc.. You'd be amazed how pulling off the road for 10 minutes will revive you and keep kids happier in the car!

Lots of sunscreen and one of those little canopy tents to sit in for her or a big umbrella you can all fit under on the beach to protect from the sun.

Another thing with beaches- and I'm assuming it is an ocean beach- be careful about the water. Strong under tows can come in fast and be undetected even from a short wade into the water on the shore. If a little one gets caught by one they can be pulled out far into the water and drown. Be sure someone is holding her hand tight if down by the water and don't let her out of easy grasp for a second.

where is the best place to view the cabrillo beach fireworks in san pedro?

Q. We are new in town, and want to check out this year's fireworks show! Is it better to go right down to the beach? What's the parking situation for such a popular holiday? Are there other places that are less crowded with an equally good view? Any helpful hints would be great. Thanks!

Answer
I live in Long Beach and people start arriving at noon to set up their canopies and tents to watch the fireworks from Bluff Park. They are shot off across the harbor at the Queen Mary. From Bluff Park you can see the San Pedro, Seal Beach and Huntington Beach fireworks. Last year, for some reason, we couldn't hear the booms from the fireworks. Fireworks aren't much fun without the booms.

According to the Cabrillo Beach website there is a free shuttle to watch the fireworks. You can park at 22nd and Miner Street. It is fun to watch the fireworks being shot off over the water. The reflections are very pretty.

I just had a baby on July 1st so that means I am heading back to work on Monday, I really want to get out of town for the weekend but can't think of where to go or what to do, its to hot out to do any outdoor activities. Any recommendations?

Answer
my son is a little older. 10 months. i just went to FL. it was amazing. he was AWESOME. tons to do. i pushed him around at zoo. HE LOVED the beach ( i got a pop tent from babies r us ) and used TONS of sun block. the pool was amazing. i have been bring him to mommy and me swim lessons since 3 months so he LOVES the water! you should think about FL. I flew from BOSTON to FLA.. and he was awesome on the plane he just slept! good luck and congrats.

Is it safe to take a newborn to the beach if...?

Addie!

Is it safe to take my daughter (due in early august) to the beach? She would be really little (only a couple weeks old) Can I take her into the water, but not get her wet?

Answer
I would buy a little baby beach shade tent, keep her very well hydrated and lubed up with sunscreen. I bet she'll sleep like an angel on a bed of soft towels and sand.

Looking to find some type of umbrella tent or anything so that my 7m old doesnt get sun while our family is at the beach. Obviously im going to put spf on her.... Thank you :)

Answer
A normal type umbrella they shade 7 year olds the same way they do 37 year olds

When is it okay to take your newborn to the beach?

Q. We bought a mini-tent that provides SPF 30 and plan to go in the early morning when the sun is not so intense.

Answer
We have been taking our newborn since about 2 weeks old...

We have a couple SPF (I don't know what number) umbrellas.

We throw a blanket down on the ground, and a white sheet on top of that. While my big boys are playing, I hang out under the shade and enjoy the sea breeze with the babe--who is now 12 weeks old:)

We go about once a week.

Is it worth paying for VIP seating at the Cavendish Beach Music Festival?

beach tents sale
on beach tent description beach tent detailed product description 1 170t
beach tents sale image

How close is VIP seating to the stage? Can you get pics? Are chairs assigned or do you just get access to the VIP area? Is it weather protected? What was you experience like at the concert?

Answer
The VIP Club features access to "members-only" private areas of the Festival within 100â of the permanent main stage and more!

VIP Club patrons desiring a relaxed atmosphere for preferred viewing of the concerts can enjoy the improved sight lines from the VIP club. This exclusive partially tented elevated area includes tables, chairs, exclusive wash rooms, complimentary hors d'oeuvres (daily between 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm), beverage specials within the VIP Club, wait staff, food & beverage service, video monitors, special festival entrance, and preferred parking.

Back by Popular Demand, The VIP Pit!
â¢Exclusively for those VIP Club members who want to get right up front to rock with their favorite artist, there is an exclusive "standing area" with a "limited capacity", at the stage barricade! (Access and capacity up front in the VIP barricade is limited for your safety, so remember to share with your fellow club members.)

You can bring your bag chair into the VIP Club (tables and chairs are still provided)!

Entry into the VIP section requires a VIP Ticket and VIP Wristband for Parents, and a VIP Ticket and VIP Wristband for their Children 6-12 accompanying them.

The 3rd annual Cavendish Beach Music Festival combines the worldâs greatest musicians and talent performing live over 4 days in breath taking Cavendish Beach, thereby linking the viewers to their favorite artists in a landmark location that typically would be visited only in their âdreams.â The timelessness and beauty of the Maritimes, incredible concerts, impressive array of food, beverages, vendors and the stars above (as well as on our stages), will once again create memories destined to last a lifetime! Get in on the tradition! Come for the music, enjoy your family and friends, and donât miss the Beach!

VIP Club Pass tickets on sale at 10:00am on March 12, 2011!
