where can i set up my tent near brighton beach - England UK?

i want to have a nice day out with my boyfriend and set a little tent someone near the beach , not any camping sites because where not staying over night , couple years ago i heard you could put your tent up one stop after brighton marina at the cliff top and nobody would say anything ... could anybody give me some ideas ?

There are small tents at times on the cliff top east of the marina but it's close to the road.
There are small tents on the beach at times too and in good weather there are all night beach parties near the pier.
The best views are a few miles away though.
From Eastbourne Pier a bus goes to Beachy Head every 30 minutes.

Also every 30 minutes a bus goes from Brighton to Eastbourne Pier and it's a very nice ride.

On here there is a picture of the very twisty road over Beachy Head from East Dean to Eastbourne and another of the hotel by the beach at the Birling Gap where you can get a bite and a pot of tea or a coffee.
It's quite a handy place and there is a lot of space to hidey away a small tent for the day.
I know. You can guess how. I use a bike mainly but the bus is fine.

My girlfriend really wants that a pink tent for her birthday and need help finding one I can buy. The bigger the camping tent the better thanks any help would be appreciated!!!
